Default Dyno Results AFR Heads Unlocked A4

Here are the latest dyno results from my car. It has a 4L60E and the converter was unlocked. AFR 195 heads, 233/233 Mike Jones Camshaft, Dyno Don short tube headers and my own custom cold air intake. What is that picture on the right. That does not look like an LS1 engine. Hey, it looks like a 3rd Gen Trans Am with an after market TPI system but with a factory plenum. The car is California smog legal and was dyno'd with the catalytic converters, and all smog equipment in place and working.

Quite a bit of porting on the plenum/runners, no? My old L98 motor died hard after 5100ish.

Nice results!

I am very impressed with how high you got the TPI to carry power. I bet those siamiesed runners and the base are hogged out nicely

Yes they are. However the CSA where the manifold meets the head is only 2.2CSA which I feel is holding me back in the upper horsepower range. I have another ported intake system under construction with a 2.61CSA at that point which better matches the AFR 195 heads.

Plus the cross sectional area will be larger all the way through and the runners will be longer in order to pick up the 2nd and 3rd harmonic waves. IMHO these siamesed runners are a little to short with the total around 13.7" from the back of the intake valve.

I would have to look at it again but that's what those engines do is make killer torque.

I have a set of Dyno Don headers. They are very nice.

Love to see the 3rd gen!

Yes, the mid range numbers were surprising. However I am running exhaust expansion chambers. These simulate an open exhaust system. PipeMax was used in the design of the collectors and I would have to say the scavenging effect of the exhaust during the overlap period is pretty close to spot on going by the results. Thank You Larry Meaux and PipeMax. I used David Vizard's criteria on how to build the exhaust expansion chambers and I have to say that works.

The car will be at the Los Angeles Invasion again this year. So we will be able to compare the dyno numbers with the track times. I am hoping for around an 11.5 in the quarter mile.

What cubes are you running under this set-up?

Congrats on the results and congrats on finally getting it done!

I know this project has been in the works for many years.....seems like three years ago or so when you purchased the heads from us!

Btw guys the 195 Comp package head would make alot of torque....its a high airspeed design with a conservatively sized runner that still has sizable peak numbers as well (300+ CFM).

Cheers,
Tony

Thanks Tony. Maybe it was 3 years ago.

Running 368 cubes. I am in the process of fixing the runner CSA problem. I am just now taking a break from grinding out the welds on my new long tube runner setup. Sometime after the Los Angeles Invasion I will install the new intake then off to the dyno again.

No, they are modified SLP runners. See if I can find a picture and post it. OK, here are some older ones but they will work. I have had the interior ceramic coated with a heat barrier since then and a little more clean up.

im guessing that drop off is due to a restriction somewhere?

Got any links to your project? I've been messing with TPIs for nearly 2 decades. Love them.

Yes, I think the "restriction" if you want to call it that is in the intake manifold itself. It has a CSA of 2.2 square inches where it meets the head and was designed for my previous motor. It should be up around 2.61 square inches for this motor with the AFR heads. If I rework this intake I will open the intake port to the head to 2.61" and the exit from the runner to the intake to 2" in diameter. That would get it done.

I have a thread going on thirdgen.org if you want to follow along. I think you have to sign in to see the pictures. Here is the link.

The torque is a characteristic of a design he eliminated

I'm having a hard time believing a 368 with 195cc heads, a mild cam, shorty headers with cats, and a modified TPI (albeit well thought out) intake is making that power through an unlocked converter in a 4L60E.

Actually, I'm having a VERY hard time...
