Default Thunder Racing's TRuTorq Level 5 in C6 Z06 = 552RWHP

We just finished up a cam only "07 Z06 build today and got some really nice numbers out of it. The mods are as follows:

Thunder Racing's TRuTorq Lvl 5 Custom Cam 227/239 115LSA
PAC 1521 Valvesprings shimmed to TR specs
Kooks 1 7/8 LT's w/Cats
Vararam CAI
TR Custom Street/Dyno Tune

Otherwise, the car is completely stock.

Final Dyno numbers 552RWHP/478RWTQ.

Here's a video of the final pull:

http://www.thunderracing.com/multimedia/videos/

We made pulls from 2000-7400 RPM with peak power occuring at 6800. Temps in our dyno room are 114*+ right now so not the best weather here. Numbers are SAE corrected on a Mustang Dyno.

One huge benefit of this camshaft is the torque curve. Instead of having the common "nitrous hit effect" at 3500 of most LS7's, this thing comes on early and carries out with a broad flat torque curve. We have a nice hill coming up to our building and this thing will pull itself up in 3rd gear with no throttle.

As promised, here's the graph:

Thanks,
Shane

The stock bottom ends good for 7400 rpm?? Didn't know that.

Nice numbers as always.

Stock LS7 Shortblocks are fine at 7400. You can bet if GM sets the limiter at 7K they have a pretty good safety margin built in. I've heard reports that GM has tested it to 8K... I can't verify that but just with my experience in building these shortblocks, the parts GM is using are more than enough especially considering the oiling system on the Z06. Hell, with rod bolts, I turn stock LS1's 7200-7400...

Thanks
Shane

I have a ls7, not in my car yet but converted to wet sump. A cam like this would be nice. I would love to turn that bitch 7400.

Excellent results! I used to turn my stock LS1 with ARP rod bolts to 7200 all the time for over 75,xxx miles

I have my limiter set at 7400 on my forged 402".

Shane, could I realistically see an improvement with that cam over my existing one?

I'd say something much smaller would work better in your build. I wouldn't go over 235* on the intake for your 402. The TRuTorq L5 would work very well in this case. It's now proven iteslf in anything from a 5.7 cathedral port to a 7.0L rectangle port engine. I could also do a custom grind. My feeling is that you are way over-cammed for your build.

Thanks,
Shane

Even with a wet sump, I still turn them up to 7400. That is the limit though if you want it to live long. The stock pumps cavitate above that. I have seen people turn 8K with a Melling but I haven't tried it myself.

Thanks
Shane

Thanks Larry! I appreciate the kind words. I've been pushing customers toward smaller and smaller cams on the rect port stuff for awhile now. I am constantly cutting custom grinds 20-30* smaller than other cams out there and making the same or BETTER power with tons more torque.

Thanks,
Shane

It will work with 1.8 rockers and TI valves... I would NOT use this cam with 1.8's on anything but a TI or hollow stem valve.

Thanks,
Shane

Damn good looking graph! Its nice to see someone stray from the 2 stroke effect. And build a car thats moves out in all aspects.
