Default Why do most NA LS motors make more HP than TQ?

And why is mine different? All of my local fbody guys cars, and most I see on here, make more HP than TQ, period. Not at an certain RPM, just overall.

My car from day one, has made significantly more tq than hp. 2 different motors, 2 different cams, same 4l60e, 3 different converters (all locked) for all 6 pulls in question. And my local friends and I all use the same dyno.

Any ideas?

Generally speaking I would say its due to the way ls1s make so much power through head flow. If they had more traditional sbc heads I would expect similar torque but less hp due to breathing restrictions.

As for your car, when you say significantly more, what do you mean? And what are the numbers? Post graphs?

I would guess something is wrong with the readout or your car just isn't making the hp it should.

Several things: compression ratio, combustion chamber efficiency, cam-shortest overlap possible re:duration, cylinder heads, A/F ratio, etc.
But what do I know...its all over my head

Hey, torque is a good thing!

what rpm are the torque/hp peaks and how high are you pulling?

just remember hp=(torque)(rpm)/5250

the more air you can flow at higher rpm the more hp you make- its all in the intake/heads/cam/exhaust package and how they work together.

Mine did the same. 355hp/391tq on a Mustang Dyno. Could be due to my restrictive stock 241 heads I suppose, or it was just a spike.

A torque converter doesn't exactly flash when the lock up clutch is engaged.

Spinning to 6500 when I was running the 5.3. Going 6900 now. Converter has always been locked on all cars in question.

Whats holding me up? The small cam or the heads? I know this motor could really use a bigger cam, Im just not up for tearing this thing apart, AGAIN. Was thinking about just hitting it with a 100 shot and calling it a day.

Just spray it. Order a Nitrous Outlet 78mm plate and call it a day.

It could be something as simple as the dyno not reading the rpm correctly. If the rpm's on the dyno are lower than the actual engine rpm it will read a higher torque reading. You can figure this out if you can plot your mph and rpm vs the dyno graph in a mph reading with hp only. HP is read off of mph / acceleration rate of the dyno.

My setup is strictly for drag, I wanted a low tq high hp motor. If the car is light enough with low gears you dont need a lot of tq to cut a good 60ft. Like stated above there are many factors, my motor is not as efficient as it could be but I left myself room to grow it really needs a 427 short block.

6.0 LS2 stock crank callies rods, diamond pistons
TFS 235 milled for 13.5 to 1
Super Vic unported w/4150 TB
12bolt 4.33s
TH350 ATI 4500 stall
Put down 530rwhp and 410rwtq

Best 60ft so far is 1.37 on 28" wrinkle walls, switching to a drag radial currently
