383 LS1, TFS 220, VRX5, 102/102, 240sx
I hit the dyno today for a tune. This new engine has about 450 miles on it.
The car is a 97 240sx. I've had an LS1 in this car since 08. The first engine died quite catastrophically.
Here's the breakdown on the build:
2002 ls1 block, 383 CI, 11.1:1 compression
Eagle forged 4" stroke crank
Eagle 6.125" Rods
Manley -4cc pistons with coated skirts
Ackerly and Child extreme piston rings
ARP 2000 rod bolts
ARP Main studs
ARP head bolts
Durabond cam bearings
Clevite main bearings
TrickFlow 220cc as cast heads
Upgraded trickflow springs .650 lift
VRX5 cam (236/238 .601/.605 113lsa)
Yella Terra Ultra Lite Roller Rockers
Hardened trickflow pushrods
GM MLS head gaskets
Comp cams drop-in High Performance lifters
Melling high volume oil pump
Katech C5R timing chain set
All new gaskets on everything else
Powerbond 25% underdrive pulley
Siemen Deka 60lb injectors
Fast 102 intake manifold
PTM 102 throttle body
85mm truck maf (still has the screen)
Monster Level 3 clutch/flywheel.
Sikky 1.75" longtube headers
Dual 3" to 3.5" under the rear end, 4" magnaflow diesel truck muffler
Fuel system:
Fuel safe road race cell with all the goodies (surge tank, ect)
Bosch 044 external pump
magnafuel regulator
Siemens Deka 60lb injectors
Nasty Performance rails
pre and post pump filters
91 octane fuel
Steel driveshaft
Q45 3.69 VLSD rear end
This car is no drag car, so I wasn't really interested in peak numbers. I wanted a flat torque curve. I certainly got that. This car has more power than I actually need.
Final dyno and street tuning was done by Andre @ ABEL racing. I'm really happy with the way it runs and idles after the tune. I said before we strapped it down I was hoping to make 475.
The 464 hp line was with a mail order tune by Frost. Props to him, it did amazingly well for a mail order tune on a pretty well modded setup. It barely took any time to dial in the final WOT tune.

It drives great at low rpm. There's little to no cam surge. During the street tuning we were driving it in 6th gear @1,000 rpm and no bucking. It's going to be great on a road course, I won't have to downshift much with a curve like that.

I made all the engine and trans mounts. I swapped the car back when there weren't all these kits for swapping the engine in. I had some heavily modified short tube headers on it for a while, when the Sikky headers hit the market I got them. The engine mounts were pretty easy as I have a big shop with lots of fab equipment, but I won't mess with building or modifying headers again. There are too many off the shelf options that work great now.
I did the q45 rear end setup back when I had the stock LS1 in it. For me at least it was a great improvement. And at this power level I can't imagine how useless the stock 4.08 gears would be. I may actually start looking for a 3.54 Q45 setup with the "big" axles. I do at some point plan on running this car at a mile event.

for doing the fab yourself it looks really good!! I plan on going with the sikky kit for my S13. I'm still deciding on my diff at the moment, I was able to get a J30 diff for free so I was thinking about that, but I was gonna look at the Q45 too, thats why I wanted to ask. Thanks for the info man!! enjoy the car!!
