Default Larger primary tube headers , when is it to big on stock cube motor?

I traded my Nova for an s10 and putting my engine and Trans in it out of my nova. This is a 11.7/1 1 compression motor now but I'm going to Change head gaskets to get 12.1/1 . Heads are 5.3 ported heads with 2.0 in 1.60 exhaust valves.
Cam is an eps cam with 238/250 .603/.596. 110 Lisa 106 cl

I was running a truck intake with efi but I'm switching to a super victor and carb setup. I will be sending a 750 Holley carb I have to Sean Murphy induction and what ever he wants to do for my application is what I'll be running instead of a stock truck intake and ported stock tb.

My dilemma is headers, Brp hot rods / hedman headers have long tubes from 1 3/4 all the way to 2" for these trucks.
I want to go at least 1 7/8 but thinking about 1 7/8 stepped to 2" because I want to run bullet mufflers and my understanding is through an exhaust a bigger tube helps. I also intend to build a 408 in a couple years and want the best of both worlds .
However 1 7/8 should do well all around.

Any dyno results on bigger tubes killing or gaining over all avg power?

2 is probably to big

If you can afford to have it done and want to pick up 10 extra hp do youself a favor and go with a set of STEPPED headers that are 1 3/4 then step out to 1 7/8 then into a 3 inch collector you will have the best of both worlds of the 1 3/4 and the 1 7/8

however I cant afford the big price tag on stepped headers so I am going 1 7/8 myself but I have a 418 ci motor with ls3 heads. but i built my engine to have a little room to grow later if I need more HP

stepped headers are the way to go though

I have stepped edelbrock headers on my Trans am. You are right , the hp and Tq they produce was night and day over my old Mac headers.

Ok so now I'm staying fuel injected. 7200 rpm limit and will most likely try the pro flo intake. I'm debating the 1.75 stepped to 1.875 or just 1 7/8. This will be a 12.1/1 347 with a 2800 race weight.

I wouldn't even consider the 1 3/4 headers on that setup. 1 7/8 all day.

I wouldnt bother with bigger than 1 7/8. Get a good intake manifold.

I am going to put either a super victor with a 4150 tb or a pro flo intake. Leaning towards the pro flo. Both act very similar from what Richard at wcch told me. Both will work well with my 5000 stall and light vehicle.

I'm going to run the 1 7/8 headers, good with this motor and will work good when I build a 408 in a year or so.

Go with the 1-7/8 Headers.

And let me know If you got any prices on the Edelbrock Intakes yet, I should be able to beat them; Im running a sale on Edelbrock stuff right now!

I talked to hedman headers today and also a race engine builder that has been building race engines and testing on a dyno for many years. Both said for my application that the 1"7/8-2" will make more power up top. It's not a street vehicle and it will weigh less then 2800 lbs with a 5000 stall and lot if gear, the little I lose down low will not be seen above. 5000 and it will make it up above that. Especially since my next engine will be 408+ ci.
Mike, I could not find the pro flo on your sight, how much are they? It will be after new years before I can order though. Christmas for kids come first

I'll be a guinea pig I guess with both , big tubes and a pro flo intake.
