Default Vengeance Racing Back to Basics - FAST Intake Comparison vs. OEM

Although we thoroughly enjoy posting about our customer's 700-1,500rwhp builds, it is time that we step back for a moment and revisit the popular topic of "Should I buy a FAST intake manifold?".

We had two customers come by in the last week for FAST manifold installs on their vehicles. The first to be highlighted is our customer's 2001 Camaro. It is a stock engine bolt-on only car that laid down 331/345 on our chassis dyno prior to any further modifications. The customer brought in a FAST 92mm LSX intake manifold and 92mm cable throttle body that he had purchased off of another individual and brought them both to us to install. Afterward, we performed a full street and dyno tune on the vehicle via EFI Live.

The end result was 358rwhp / 367rwtq, a gain of 27rwhp/22rwtq over the OEM manifold/TB!

The very next day, our good friend and customer Kris brought by his LS2 automatic C6 for a manifold swap. Kris opted for the FAST 102mm LSXR intake manifold with an OEM throttle body for now. At the time of baseline, Kris had already had us install a Vengeance Racing custom camshaft kit, Halltech Venom II intake, ARH 1 3/4" longtube header system, and a Powerbond 25% underdrive pulley. This combination netted a total of 403rwhp/400rwtq through the stock torque converter and automatic transmission.

We installed the 102mm intake manifold, reconnected his OEM throttle body and Halltech intake, made a few street tuning adjustments, and then it was back to the dyno! Within just a few hours, Kris gained a total of 23rwhp/23rwtq over baseline with a total of 426rwhp / 423rwtq after tuning was completed!

We also offer full porting services with any of our FAST intake manifolds and intake kits. Typical gains with our porting service are 7-10rwhp over an unported FAST intake. If you have any questions on FAST intake manifolds, our porting services, or any other services that we offer please feel free to contact me at any time!

Nice gains! So there was no porting whatsoever to either of these intakes? I take it the Camaro had a LS6 intake as well?

Those are big gains on the LS1! My numbers are almost identical (329/345) to his before he swapped on the FAST 92.

Does this Camaro still use the stock 75mm MAF? Thanks for posting, David!

Yes sir, still on the stock MAF.

The manifold was unported on both, but we also installed a 92mm throttle body on the Camaro at the same time as the intake. His was an OEM LS6 and OEM throttle body prior.

Very impressive! I'm about to swap my LS6 intake and ported stock TB for a lightly ported Fast 90 intake and stock 90mm TB. I'd do a damn back flip if get those kind of gains lol

Good gains for the fast over stock. It's nice sometimes to get back to the basic stuff.

It would be interesting to see what the gains would be going from the stock TB to a 102mm on the LS2 combo.

This was my result on my heads/cam 5.7 going from a ls6 intake and ported ls6 85mm tb to a ls2 tb and a ported fast 92. These numbers are baselined on the same day, same dyno an hour or so apart from each other... Both sets of numbers are also from the same Tuner as well

I've never seen a gain like that! Do you attribute it to anything other than the intake?

Previous tune on setup was by Vengeance pcm as well, and the only changes were the ported intake and tb and a new tune

All I can think is that the porting Vengeance did was really good. I had a look at and it looked very well done and I could tell alot of time was spent on it to give me the best gains possible. Besides that I'd have to say the tune was the other big factor in the gains... I've been to 4 shops in the ATL area for tuning and out of all of them i've had the best results with Vengeance Pcm. The 5.7 that this intake was on was a pretty strange motor to begin with and was already put together before I moved to the Atl area. It was a ls6 with hand ported and extremely decked 317 heads. The heads were decked so much that the underside of the ls6 intake had to be ground off in order to seal against the heads. Cranking cylinder pressure was 235 psi in all cylinders +/- 3 or so and the cam was a 232/236 595/601 114. All the other supporting mods were the same as in my sig

It's been brought to my attention that the Fast 90 I just bought has been ported by Vengeance (has their signature, initials and date) so hopefully I'll see great gains as well. To be honest though, it looks kinda crappy....lots of fuzz and whatnot. Reagardless, your gains are awesome and I'd be happy as hell with that

Nice results....but it seems like alot to me. I went from a ported ls6 to a ported fast and picked up 13whp and 10wtq. But my car was pretty well tuned on the ls6 intake and then tuned some more for the fast intake. It kinda makes me think there was more found in the tune other than just a intake gain.

Thanks for all of the kind words guys! These were very impressive gains for the combination coming from an LS6 manifold, but the Camaro was tuned by someone else prior and we re-tuned with our calibrations after installation.

any insight on how good the tune was? do you recall what af and timing were prior?

Fast 92 always makes the numbers for us. IMO it's the best manifold Fast has ever made.

Great results David and these kinds of comparisons really help customers out when trying to decide if spending 850-900 dollars on an intake is really worth it.
