Default Finally dynoed APE 370, Patriot II's, 238/244

I finally got my car back together and running again after toasting the motor last Thanksgiving. I have a few electrical gremlins to work out of it that are causing a random, crazy misfiring. Other than that I am happy with my numbers in its current stage of mods. The mods are as follows:
  • AP Engineering 370 short block
  • Patriot Performance stage II heads, cleaned up further on the exhaust port
  • Comp Cam 238/244 .605/.612 @114+2
  • Stock LS1 intake
  • Stock unported throttlebody
  • Stock descreened MAF
  • Stock crank pulley
  • Stock water pump
  • Hooker Longtubes with Y
  • TSP Rumbler exhaust
  • Stock 10 bolt rear with 3.42 gears
  • Stock Aluminum driveshaft
  • SPEC IV clutch w/stock flywheel
  • Stock 16 inch rims
I had it dynoed at AP Engineering on their Mustang Dyno. The A/F ratio came out to around 12.8:1. After swapping a plug on the dyno and messing with wiring harnesses, the car mysteriously quit misfiring...until my drive home. When all cylinders are firing, it drives very mildly and pulls from about 1400 to 6900 very easily.....

Big props to the gang at AP Engineering. I showed up a little late and had to fiddle with my car on the dyno. No complaints from them at all. Kirk, the tuner, helped me attempt to diagnose my problems. He noticed that I had an exhaust leak on the passenger side that I was unaware of. Chris, was very helpful in answering my seemingly random questions throughout the day mainly on my future mods. All in all I was there for over 3 hours, but my car made it home...on the way there, I figured it would not make it.

Don't care what numbers it put down. It has enough power to slam my poor head off the roll bar when shifting to 4th!

The torque curve is nice for such a big cam. You still have about 30 or so HP left in bolt-ons, so pretty good numbers man.

Mustang dyno's are about 15% low. Your numbers are prolly closer to 460RWHP.....Congrats!

Yeah, good numbers. Kirk did my car also. He knows his stuff. I'll be back to see them in the spring.

Pick up some of those boltons over the winter and head on back.

The cam actually does not act all that big in a 370. It definately is not stock, but drives as good or better than my TR224 cam did in my 346 untuned. Even with the SPEC IV, it is very streetable. There is an obvious difference in acceleration at any RPM though.

Vince....I will probably go with the 90/90 Fast setup. Eventually some Kooks or QTPs also.

Whplash...Kirk definately knows his stuff. He did not hesitate one bit to begin troubleshooting my car.

My goal with this long block is somewhere around 430 rwhp on APE's dyno. Then it will be time for a cam, head, and crank swap and who knows what else, turbo possibly. My final goal with this car is 550 rwhp on a dynojet. This is what I see as the limit for a streetable car that I drive to work daily in the summer. Big cubic inches and a small turbo equals a very mild dependable setup, which is what I will want eventually.

What is a 370 anyhow? Is that just a huge bore with stock crank, or a small stroker? I checked APE and there is no info on this motor.

6.0 liter block 30 over with a stock crank...that is if I am calculating the cubic inches correctly.

Thanks.
Duh, I didn't even think of the iron block. It just says 370 short block. I forget how many people on here put that block in their cars.

It was going to cost me the same to buy a shortblock from APE whether it was a 348 or a 370, so the choice was easy. I had to buy a new block because I scratched one of the walls in my aluminum one, so I just bought an iron one. At the time it was purely a cost issue. I got a bigger motor for what turned out to be cheaper after I bought a new block.

I could not beat the price from APE either. Awesome deal on the shortblock and great shipping charges....I picked the motor up.
