Default Cut heads or thinner gasket?

I'm about to get my ported stock heads back and it hit me with all the talk about getting the quinch area right that I would need to change the gasket to a .040. Would milling the heads (since there off) accomplish the same thing?? I .040 the correct gasket thickness for a 98 stock head? thanks !!

Milling the heads would not change quench height.

You will need to measure how far the pistons come out of the hole and subtract that from your gasket thickness to determine quench. .35-40 is what you are shooting for. I have heard of even less but that would be up to you. In the applications that we have set up to have quench we have seen excellent throttle responce, the ability to add more compression with pump gas and more torque.
