Default Hotcam #'s in GMHTP mag!!!

A 2002 T/A with Mac headers and all bolt ons with a hotcam "helped" him put down 398/389!! 3.42 geared stock rear end. What's yall's opinions. My 99 with a 224/228 with 4.10's (see sig) has only managed a measly 391/376?%$#@. I know the 01-02 spec heads are worth something, but c'mon!!

The numbers there for the hotcam are NOT typical. Most I've seen do 375-385 hp and tq. Your numbers are pretty good with that cam, especially considering your 4.10's, don't be dissapointed. What does it run?

In a Chevy High Performance magazine, I have seen them take a stock LS1 add a Hot cam, LS6 heads, and LS6 intake and make 510 hp at the fly.

Dyno numbers are for bragging right's, it's what you do at the track that matter's.

Kind of like, size doesn't matter, well that what my wife say's

12.10 @ 118.40 on a 3200 bogging 1.89 60. I'm scared of my 10 bolt BFG's. I had a hotcam in my last one but didn't have lt's, ORY, ls6 intake or pulley and it ran 12.54 @ 112 on street tires. I'm about ready to buy a used hc and swap them just to see what it does.

IMO, if you want a new cam, you should get one of the proven grinds that everyone on the board is running.

I know of 10 second cars running my exact cam, I'm just curious to see what the difference at the track and dyno would be if I swapped a hotcam in. According to the board, there's a boatload of "proven" "dyno" cams out there.

The stock heads definitely have something to do with it... a small cam and a large cam will dyno pretty similarly (usually within 10-20 rwhp) because the stock heads can only flow so much.

Once you add some big flowing heads to the equation, that's when the bigger cams really distance themselves from the smaller ones. That's the reason I bought the cam I did... when I add some heads in the future, I won't feel as pressing of a need to swap out the cam for something bigger.

I guess it proves there's no reason to be hatin on the hotcam for a stock headed car then huh? Couldn't have made that kind of power for less without going n20. Granted, he does have 3.42's, not sure how much you lose with 4.10s. I totally agree with thinking about heads in the future in your cam choice.
