SLP 402 w/ AFR 225 heads '02 ZO6
Just had Rick At Synergy Motorsports tune my '02 ZO6
Ted and Al at Valaya racing did the install of the engine, a new SLP 402 aluminum crate motor with AFR 225cc high compression heads. 228/230 @.591" on 114 lsa, factory LS6 intake and throtle body, factory air box, 1.75" LG long tube headers with high flow cats.
I am very happy with the package. The idle is only slightly lopier than stock, crusing noise inside the cabin is the same, the sound under full throttle is marvelous, tire wear will be a serious problem! I can roast the tires at will in second by merely blipping the throttle. Even third gear is prone to rather easily induced wheel spin.
Ther is nothing to see under the hood that gives the car away. Even at idle, 95 out of 100 people wouldn't notice anything really different. I am thrilled with the new combination!

It was because I do drive the car daily that I went with this cam. I now have over 80K miles on the car and 2500 on the new engine. I hope to keep it for quite a while longer. It still looks brand new with virtually perfect paint and interior. As long as no one gets picky regarding the headers, I am told I will not have a problem with passing smog.

Those are some great numbers for that combo you have, especially since you have a LS6 intake and a "small" cam.
Thanks for posting, that is something that I am really looking into, big cubes, "small" cam with cats.
What brand are the cats?
With that type of dyno, are those numbers suppose to be equal to a dynojet?

Love how you have all your power before 6000 rpm. Very impressive! You'll really be able to squirt through traffic with all that power and torque down low. Congrats.

Chuck,
Thanks for replying on the other thread, 490 / 480 is awesome those are the numbers I'm looking for - but - as you stated I have the FAST 90/90 and a CAI so I should see another 15 or so to the wheels.
Right now with my combo I dont break them lose in 2nd or 3rd - and thats my biggest worry about going to a 402. Even with more power, if traction is limited, I would lose a race to a lesser powered car because I'd be burning up the power.
What tire are you using? What tire does Synergy reccomend for added stickyness? I'm thinking of Nitto 555R2's once my Toyos go bye bye.

Pio,
You are facing an old dilemma. It is easier to drive a slow car to its maximum potential than it is a race car. Practice, practice, practice... but isn't that the fun and challenge of it? If anybody could do it well I'd probably move on to something else.
I really need to make my next investment in myself with a 5 day driving school. My car is now outside my abilities to really wring out most of what its got on the track.
There really isn't a perfect tire either. Different track surfaces, different temperatures, expected speeds and type of track are just some of the criterion used to pick a tire for specific car combination.
My thoughts on what I would do if I were to take the car drag racing would be to only use 1st to get the car rolling, then shift into second immediately. I might even try using 2nd to launch. Launching hard in first only makes sense if you use very sticky slicks. (This will very likely cause other expensive problems). I would probably short shift second too because with the street tires I am right on the edge of spinning the tires in third at 40 mph anyway. Are we having fun yet? Absolutely!!

It really is almost like driving an automatic. 4th gear is good between 25 and 140mph so shifting isn't at all neccessary. 5th has more acceleration than 98% of the cars on the road from 50mph on up. To me, 2nd and 3rd gear are better than nitrous.

Caliboy,
The cats are claimed to be high flow and came with the LG's. Borla makes the pipes for LG, but I don't know if they actually make the cats.
