"Self tuning" is a very bad idea IMO if you don't know what you're doing.

i guess im just a cheap ***, im debating if i should get a tune after my full exhaust, or if i should wait untill i do something larger before i get a tune.

and livernois e-mailed me back, they want 525 for a custom dyno tune.

they are about 8 minutes from my house like unit said, and they are cheaper and a lot closer than w2w, so we will see.

in jersey dyno tunes run from $250-600 depending on your mods which can show the tuner the level of difficulty of the tune...obviously a bolt on car is going to be much easier to tune then a 408 with a turbo.

thats why 600 bucks seems like a lot for me, because its only a bolt on car, if i had a big cam or something where it requires more tuning, i could understand the high price.

aparently i misunderstood the people being quoted 500-600 had driveability included, sorry.i paid 1000 + for an intake/tb because that is pretty much the only option,it is not like i could make my own,btw how does a thread about dyno tuning costs compare to what you pay for an intake

I paid $250 for a street/dyno tune and was very happy with the results! My tuner knew what he was doing and had it nailed in 1- 1 1/2 hrs. The car makes 422hp/399tq with stock heads, SLP headers, normal crap, and a .579 lift cam. AFR was 13.0 while driving with Tech 2 monitoring it.

Well I see it like this a tune will seriuosly make or break your combo and I am tired of paying for tuning ranging between $450-$600 and getting a download of a similar modded vehicle. I would be willing to pay $1500 if I was for sure getting my cars tuned to the best of their abilitys and if I ever took them somewhere else they would not be able to enhanse drivability or make more power. Everyday that goes by these tuners have more bins and that means less time actually spent tuning your car. I have towed some of my cars to tuners 4 states away and some locally and I am seroiusly disapointed. It boggles my mind that I can email A & A corvettes my mods and get a mail order tune that out performs anyones dyno tune. To me dyno tune shouldnt mean make a few changes and run it a couple of times and your car is tuned, time must be spent to get good results and I havent been able to find a place to do this for me turbo, nitrous, supercharged, NA, nowhere and yes Ive tried supporting vendors, if there is a good tuner willing to spend the time and earn good money let me know Ive got HP tuners and LS1 edit and would love to recomend someone to others.

There is not much of a market for such tunes so tuners with such abilities have had to figure out a way to do it for much less.

Here in CT we charge $400.00 we used to charge $550.00 . And we do adjustments(i.e. you add more mods in the future) for FREE if it does not require dyno time, and if it does require going back on the dyno it is usually $125.00 (dyno time)

I had my tune done about 3 years ago at CARTEK here in NJ, just looked up my old bill it was $550.00 for the tune AND $45.00 for the install of the 02 bung for the wideband. That's $595.00 !!

Well me coming from the Rotary side, when a slight knock can cause you to spend $4K+ on a rebuild, a good tuner is worth way more than $500, and usually you pay $300-$500 to fly one of them out for a day (Per Person) and then add dyno time.. @ $70-150 / hour...

The difference is usually night and day, 30+ hp can easily be gained with a good tune / vs a bad one on a rotary.

What I wanted to know is typically how crazy is tuning an LS1 (Yes I'm converting as we speak) and how complicated is it compared to other "Boosted / supercharged applications" since we're talking like Cam, Headders, and possibly a new head by next summer...

I obviously don't have to worry about split timing, staged injection etc... but other than making it run like hell (poorly) can you actually blow the motor by messing with things too much ?? Or is the ECU smart enough that it will listen to the knock sensor and retard timing if you advanced it too much ??

$450 initially ... $250 (sequentially) for future tunes. Shop makes changes for free if I'm not satisified ... say like the rev limtier is not set high enough or the shifts need to be adjusted for more line pressure, etc.
