Lightbulb Moser 9" Power Loss - Details

Dyno'd before and after the 9" install - nothing was changed except the rear end.

Hopefully that will answer a lot of the power loss questions (and squelch some of the rumors, as well).

Thanks for the post. Which was first? Run 1 is less than run 3. I am guessing run 3 was before and 1 was after.

Sounds like a common complaint from what Ive read. Even happens with 12 bolts. Doesnt seem to slow anyone down at the track though.

The runs are on different days, explaining the difference in "Run" names. Run 3 was before, Run 1 is after. The runs are ~two weeks apart, and both numbers are SAE corrected.

That true track is heavy. My locker is no light weight but I am betting it is heavier than the locker. So 18 hp loss through gears and bigger rear. Sounds about average.

well, problem is you had 3.42s before, so going to 4.10s with youre 10 bolt wouldve lost power also. its been done before, same gear ratio 10bolt, to same gear ratio 9in was right at 10hp.

Well that's assuming he stuck with the same tire size. My bet is he went with taller tires.

says at the top of the graph that the gears in the 10 bolt were 3.42's and the 9" are 4.11's that changes everything.

For sure, the gear certainly isn't helping. I think it's pretty safe to assume that most guys would go with more gear when ordering an aftermarket rear, so this is meant to help those people out.

Still on the same tire - 26" Mickey Thompson drag radials.

Yes, that is why I put the ratios at the top the of the graph. I think it's pretty safe to assume that most guys would go with more gear when ordering an aftermarket rear, so this is meant to help those people out.

My ol' cam-only setup went from 400rwhp to 390rwhp (10 bolt to 9 inch- nothing else changed).

An auto with a stall keeps looking better. Some of the power loss through the converter is offset with a m6 needing a 9" that absorbs some power.

I saw a 12 HP degrease with adding a 12 bolt, little more gear and 17x11" ZR1s.
