Default Mustang Dyno Hourly rates?

Finally someone close to Albuquerque bought a Mustang dyno. But the rates seemed a bit high.

They are asking

$200/hr

or

$500 for 4 hrs

I REALLY want to use this dyno to dial in my VE table but I don't know if their rates are inline with what other shops are charging.

Does this seem right?

Thats expensive as ****! Most places around Dallas are around $50-60 for 3 pulls with A/F. Thats propably about 30-45 minutes worth of time

I'd go somewhere else if I were you

Since they're new, ask them if they'd offer a charter member deal...something to help build their business. If they are not willing to budge on the rate, remind them that thanks to the internet, the local performance community is a tight group and will share whatever experiences they have with a shop...both good and bad.

Most places I know charge $75/hr.

Just get your own dyno and you won't have to worry about hourly charges like me.

Ohhh, the thought has crossed my mind, you should see what pops on Ebay

I think most people don't realize the benefits of an eddy current dyno.

It's $100 for three pulls with an A/F reading at this same place FWIW.

But lets compare apples to apples, I'm guessing those rates quoted for for inertia (dynojet) dynos. Don't do much more than WOT on those. You can load up the car as it would on the street on a Mustang. So dialing in a VE table would be cake without the risk and hassle of doing it on the street and having to worry about other cars.

What are other shops with Mustang dynos charging?

the $75 is for an inertia, not sure about mustang dyno's.

My Mustang Dyno has 2000lbs of inertia along with the eddy current. You can also do 0-60 times, 1/4 mile and 1/8 mile passes and passing acceleration test on it.

We charge $110 for the first Hr and $90 per Hr thereafter on ours. We have been charging this for a few years now and will be upping them after this season. We have a solid two to three week dyno tuning backlog and need to slow this down, can't think of a better way of doing it. One trend observed for the past couple of years is, as the public is getting more educated as to the importance of testing or tuning on a load vehicle simulation type dynos, such shops are getting more business. With the greater expense, capabilities and results from them, a higher rate is justifiable, in my opinion.

Your price seems fair to me, and I would pay it. I just don't know what industry is charging on average. I am not suprised it's more than a dynojet, I was expecting it, but the price does seem a little steep.

FWIW I'm willing to make a 3 1/2 hr drive to tune my car on this dyno even though we have plenty of dynojets in Albuquerque. Unfortunately it's going to cost me another $200-300 to make the trip down there .

I totally agree with your assesment. I used to work at an engines and alternatives fuels lab and we had a Superflow engine dyno and a mustang chassis dyno. It was nice being able to touch on any part of the fuel maps at will.

I just wish the rest of America would catch on.

You just wouldn't believe how many dyno queens there are in this city. A lot of shops bank on it for buisness but their cars run like **** at the track.

Getting back to what that shop charges, $200/Hr or $500 for 4Hr. It is obvious what they are trying to do, get compensated better for 1Hr jobs. Because a dedicated dyno shop has time to sell only, it is the 1Hr jobs that we make the least profit on. These jobs cost the most time with prep, doing the job, reports, billing, questions and having to listen to every car the customer had or wish they could own, not to mention their Uncle's too. Also, the scheduled 1hr job often prevents scheduling a multi hr job on a given day, thus much unchargable time results from this. So I can completely understand charging this $200 for an hr and possibly give some credit back if the customer wants to come back later for a complete multi hr tune job. If the shop is not a dedicated dyno shop, meaning that they use the dyno to help sell parts and service, then they may charge less dyno time and make it back on extra parts and service. But its possible that such shops are not as qualified at dyno tuning if it is not their main interest and only specialty.

yes sir

I'm going down this coming up weekend for family buisness. Myself and Frcefed98 need an eddy current dyno to dial in our cars and Frcefed has a brother also working on a turbo setup. We're seeing what we can do to split the cost etc.

I'm heading down to check out the shop and talk to Brian.
