Default Tested a NASCAR LS2

Tested a NASCAR LS2 today.Made 592 HP & 530 TRQ at around 6500 rpm.Took the motor to 7500 rpm but no real gain. Not much is known of the motor but I was told it had just below 11 to 1 cmp. and a Comp 281 HR cam in it.The motor is used in the Gran national Divisions which are steping stone type series to the NASCAR CUP.Sweet motor. These are supost to last a whole year of racing. These can be taken to 8000 rpm for restarts.Heads are CNC ported 243 .Thats about all I know about it. I would like to have one.

Wow, that is pretty weak compared to the cup motors...

I know there is a huge difference in budget and everything else, but I would have expected a little more. I may be misguided in my expectations..

Default Nascar Ls2

The motor is like a crate motor program.Every were you look is a coded bar so you cant mess with anything.Compared to a Cup motor yes its a little down on power but its a fraction of the cost of a Cup motor. The comp. and timing events(Cam size) are pulled back to last a whole year of racing. On a Cup motor its 12:1 comp and the cam is .400" + lift at the cam + a 1.9 to 2.2 rocker arm ratio on top of that.Thats why it can make 825 + hp.Also the heads with 425 cfm at max lift help also.

Is that the same crate that Andy Santerre Motorsports was using at some races this season?

We ran one of the Nascar Spec motors a few months ago as well on the Dynojet 248 Chassis dyno,
The motor was built In Suisun City at T.O.E. We ran it up to 8300rpm with the 500cfm carb on it!

How strong do you think cup motors are? A Cup engine with the plate is about the same power that LS2 makes.

they make about 750 and are good for UNO race.

they will last longer then one race leary, but why take the chance when you have a basicly unlimited budget...?

our 18* motors( old hendrick qualifying motors) make 700 and they last all year 10(175lap races) & 2(250 laps) & 1 (300 lap)...and we turn it as high as 9200 qualifying...

Saw one of these motors in person when we were looking at different shops to rent earlier this year! Good to see another resident of Mooresville here on 'tech. Very nice and very interesting design.

A cup engine without a plate makes close to 900 bhp.

I believe they still use the SB2's in the main Grand National series right? Can they use the R'07 yet?
