99 cobra vs. 98-02 camaro ss
Ok i have a 99 cobra. I want to get rid of it, to buy an 98-02 camaro ss. Ive never raced an SS or Z28 before. I know you guys must of raced some 99 cobras before, im just curious of badly you beat it or if it wasnt that far off from beating you, please be honest. Put info if the 99 cobra was stock or mods had if known, and your mods, thanks.

yea it has the 99 "fix" and i know they suck for performance but i have a flowmaster american thunder catback on it. otherwise 100% stock only 15000 miles on it, just thought id throw that in there.

If you go from a dig and that SS is 100% stock, then you'd lose by 2-3 lengths, IMO. IF the driver abilities are the same...which, they rarely are. I know of some 99/01s that have won 4th gens with similar mods, because they were better drivers.
In general though, the 4th gen is a good .3 quicker.

They're a little down on power compared to the LSX powered cars, but cool as hell. I'd have rocked a '99 if prices were similar. The only thing holding that car back is the stock gears and IRS. Sell that, swap in a live axle 8.8 with 4.30s and 31-splines, then slap some drag radials on each end.

lo, so you guys on here actually respect or even like the 99-01 new edge cobras? cause us new edge cobra guys over at svtperformance get no love or respect at all, and then the terminator guys always just say we would get walked by any LS1.

What's the reason you want to get rid of your cobra besides f-bods are faster? My main point is, it is a buyers market not a sellers market you won't get the money back to buy an f-bod.
As far as racing stock trim I have raced bullits and early cobras, from a dig I won my car got better out of the hole, from a roll really close I haven't raced one since my full bolt-ons lately.

I don't think that it will be close unfortunately. If you got a set of 4.10 gears, full exhaust, CAI, and tune it would be a good race.
I'm a big fan of the 4 valve cars after driving a 98 Cobra with gears, exhaust, clutch, shifter, CAI, tune and a suspension that hooked. A girl from Georgia let me drive and it was a rocket at 3800 RPM or above.

my buddies cobra ran 12.5 with 410 gear and a catback on drs. Gears are by far the best mod you can do to those cars. a ls1 is going to beat it from a roll. but if you have gears and tire a dig will be close.

I ran a cobra, I think it was 01? With my LS1 car lid/exhaust/LT's and 3.23 gears on a T56 and it looked like he dropped an anchor out. So I would guess bone stock the LS1 would pull slightly. It was a really nice car, but maybe he didn't know how to drive it since it still had dealer plates. Honestly, I would keep the cobra, its just about as fast as an LS1 f-bod and probably a lot nicer inside, plus the sexy mustang sound.
