I don't follow too much of the Dodge scene, particularly the "SRT-4". I over heard someone saying that one of those Neons/SRT-4's can put an LS1 to shame. What's the take on these SRT-4's?

They're quick for being a 4cyl. compact, but they're not WS6 or SS fast. The SRT4's have some potential modded, but I think even then they need upgraded turbos or some sort of other expensive mods to make it happen from what I can recall from reading about them years ago.

Fixed. Well engine is anyway, but I agree with you. On a side note my girl drives one and well even tho I paid for it I still hate it.

A stock SRT4 is a 235 HP FWD Neon, so its just a fun daily driver. With mods? These things can be pretty freakin mean! A buddy of mine down by our local track has one pumping out around 400 HP.

They aren't fast as an ls1 stock. But modded they can kinda hang. I raced a modded one and I beat it for like 2 cars compared to a stock one 100 cars. Lol

A bud of mine has a low milage mint one SRT4 with the factory stage one kit and he couldn't do better than 14.5 in the quarter.

Still don't see the point in a 400 hp fwd car, but that's just me I guess. Fugly car w/ a stupid looking wing in the back. Talk about cheap, they put power windows up front but manual in the back?!? Gonna go that route to save weight, go the ACR route they used to, strip the interior.

My old LT1 smacked them around fairly easily.

There is one back in my area that is slightly modded..has a really loud BOV. He chased me down a backroad one day a few months ago while I was playin around. I had just fininshed breaking in my 408 so I could go WOT with it..he wanted to line up cause "LT1 cars are slow".

Ya he was toasted..lol.

I had kinda the same experience. 'Cept I got him on 2 parts.

I used to take a long route going from south bay area to Sacramento at least 2x a month. Punk kid in his bright yellow srt-4 ridin' my a$$. I take this route because it turns into a twisty road, fun for me. I pay attention to the road not my rear view mirror, get back to the straights and he's nowhere, lol.

Continue on at the speed limit. The rest of the journey before I-5 is straights, he catches up w/ me and wants to do a rolling drag, so I humor him. Either he was a really crappy driver or his mods made him slower, 'cuz I had him by 3 lengths to 80 mph.

Lol. Anyway, yeah they can be quick but at the end of the day it's still a "Neon," the car that says "hi," if you remember Dodge's ad for it back in the day. It might run with an LS1 but who cares-a Neon is still a Neon...

Like any car, they can be made fast. They are quick in stock form, but once you start modding them they are highway monsters. I have seen many videos of modded SRT4's putting train lengths on LS1's.

They can be made rather quick with little mods, they respond amazingly well to minor mods. With just a boost controller i have seen them take down LS1 GTOs off of rolls just barely. A few hundred buck invested, BC, FMIC, DP and CAI and it will be aiming for LS2 GTOs.

They can take an amazing amount of power on stock motor and trans and the weakest point would eb the clutch which is good for "only" 380whp on average.

Keep modding one and they become amazing on the highway.

Also it seems to me like LS1techs general attitude is "SRT4s are super gay but Cobalt SS are awesome!" They are both pretty cool cars IMO for what they are, with the SRT being a better value for the money. The only real advantage the SS TC cobalts have is the amazing handling and the ability to come with a warranty.

Yeah, I've owned a SRT-4 and invested thousands into it. It was a really fun car and was supposed to be around 400whp and even though it being a dodge it never broke down on me once and I beat the car out of it. With my TCS I was even able to out launch a GTO and pull on him till the end of the run, granted I wanted to try American Muscle and I know that my GTO has more potential but I will give every SRT-4 the up most respect because even though they aren't the greatest build quality they are fun and quick.

Stage 1 does near nothing, unless your an 03 in which case it'll give you bigger injectors and raise the boost a little. If he's running .3 slower than a stock SRT-4 (many have seen 13s stock) then it might be more of a driver issue haha

A good running SRT-4 can run a 12.8 with exhaust, wastegate, slicks, motor mounts and a tune. So right around a SS/WS6.

Big turbos seem to see low 12's all day and some 116+mph traps.
