Driveshaft Help in New England Area?
Hey Everyone,
Anyone in NH or MA (perferably) know where I can get my 5" diameter Aluminum drive shaft shortened and balanced? 2 local driveshaft shops in Manchester cant do it, and said something about the ends of the driveshaft being crimped on some GM shafts and cant be shortened???? anyone heard of this?
Driveshaft needs to be 67" Center to center and have a critical speed of at least 6500rpm. (hense the 5" aluminum) and the one I have now is 70+"
Thanks in advance,
Derek

Try Mitchell Driveline in Shrewsbury, Ma. Not sure if they will be able to or not, but they were going to make me a custom two piece for my gto, so i would think they can handle it.

I have a 3.5" Steel shaft now. But its a one piece currently 73" center to center. Needs to be shortened to 67". Which is fine, but critical speed for that shaft at the new length with 1350 joints is like 5k rpm. But I an running a TH400 and take it up to 6500 rpm. I also exceed the "1/2 critical speed" for highway speeds. Just afraid of driveshaft failure.

Drive shafts are rated by speed or driveshaft rpm,not engine rpm
Call Denny's,he's made us long shafts like that to handle 1krwhp.Doubt anybody local can high speed balance a shaft like him.

Sorry, I was refering to engine rpm in 3rd gear. So engine rpm matched driveshaft rpm. Would hate to have a failure on a dyno doing a pull or at the track is all. Esp if its your dyno I do plan on taking it there once I take it out of storage!
But I contacted Brookline machine and they said they could do it. Which is good because its local and can save on shipping.
