Front license plate question (RI and MA ppl)
hey guys, im from Rhode Island, and I drive in mass alot too. Anyways, i have a 2002 SS and it has the special SS grill, and theres like no where at all to put a front license plate, im sure i can custom fab it in somewhere but id rather not use one. So in Rhode Island and/or Mass, are front license plates required i know they were but someone told me they werent anymore? so idk Also if they are required and some of you dont use them anyways do cops bust your ***** alot or not really cuz theirs not like an empty spot for it. Right now I just have it like where my dash/windshield is on the inside

depends on what you do and how you drive. if you get caught at the local race spot, your getting a ticket for no front plate. i ended up having to mount mine over my trans am emblem
my buddy got away with putting 2 stickies on his passenger side windshield and sticking it there. he has it in the corner because the law states it has to be secured and out of the drivers reach.

I still have a mass green plate from when they only ran the rear plate. but you can screw the front plate to the air dam under the front end. It is visible from 60 ft as required by law.

I haven't had one on my Trans Am for 5 years. I've been pulled over for it once, it was late at night and he didn't give me a ticket for it, it was more or less a reason to pull me over and check if I was drunk, which I was but my sober buddy was driving me home. It really depends if they want to break your ***** over it or not.

I'm from MA, I got warned about it three times. I put it on to get it inspected in October and haven't taken it back off yet. I might just leave it there and take it off for car shows/meets, not really worth getting a fine over. It sure does look stupid though. In MA you can legally run one plate if that is what you were issued. People that have the green number plates only got one and are grandfathered in, I wish I had a green plate.

I just found that my grandother recently got rid of her green plate. I told her that is a sin! No front plate tickets don't go against your insurance but an expired inspection sticker does.

first of all, whoever it in the windshield that's a big mistake...i saw a news article of a guy who was decapitated cause he had his front plate in the cabin in a 20 mph crash. should probably move that.

just an fyi for all you ma guys...my gf works for an insurance company in MA and told me that starting in 09 everyone will be required to get the "new" red plates and turn in the old green plates. Yes, that means everyone will have a front plate, and it is points on your insurance and a pretty decent fine for having no front plate.
You will also get ticketed for a faded plate that isn't reflective anymore, and you aren't suppose to be able to get a sticker unless everything is up to spec.

Just reported this morning on WAQY 102.1, you can keep the green plates if they can be read from 60 feet or so. There have been some FALSE fliers put up around places like the DMV and post offices.
You do NOT have to turn in the plates. If they qualify, you can keep them.
