Default need competent shop to do rear axle ring & pinion in CT

******* pinion is really howling on my 2002 and starting to vibrate.
Can anybody recommend a competent shop in southern CT that can do a rear axle build?
Car is a 2002 ss with 65k miles, had pinion seal replaced back around 2004 by GM dealer under warranty and is probably the reason why it's going now.
It has the stock 3.42 ratio, considering doing 3.73 ring & pinion, maybe do the crush sleeve eliminator if it's worth it, plan to reuse the torsen. I want the rear quiet so I guess go with factory gears, maybe yukon if yukon's are quiet.

This came up last time...

https://ls1tech.com/forums/eastern-m...d-work-ct.html

http://www.google.com/search?q=perfo....0.yeQFEGSAluo (general google search).

Check with sponsors, I think Slowhawk is closest. Also a local member or two may send you a pm.

Eastside did mine but no longer in biz so IF I decided ever to do a swap I am gonna suck it up and get the tools and DIY.

http://www.ctaxleservice.com/

They are in Ellington, CT, just northeast of the Hartford area.

I just called the guy up there today. He quoted me ~$1200 for a full rebuild with all new parts plus new gears (going 4.10). It goes up from there if you want an upgraded differential, axles, etc. His name is John and I think the guy who does the work is Peter. I plan on dropping my rear off sometime this weekend so I will let you know how it goes when I get it back. Seems very competent though, took a fair amount of time on the phone to answer all of my questions.

Used Moser 12 bolts go for 1600-1700 and thats often with a 4.10... Just saying and unfortunately half my issue with investing ANY money in a GM 7.5 10 bolt.

I know this is a very old thread but also looking for a good shop. On the fence about which direction I should go. My rear is howling. I'd like to go with a MWC but $$$. Wondering how others made out with shops and rebuild.

I had one rebuilt that ended up fine for a few months until I got it on the dyno then it started howling like crazy. If you're not planning on racing the car long term I'm sure a rebuild would be fine, but you'll always think you should have gotten the built rear regardless. Yes the cost sucks, but the peace of mind and never having to think about it again is nice.

Damn you man lol. Agree! I should probably just get on the waiting list now and have it all ready to for next year. I've had the car this long and updated everything else. Might as well do it once and right.

I see you have an S60, are you happy with it? I was quoted on a fabbed 9" but I think that might be overkill for my use.

I'm very happy with my S60. It fit just like stock, is dead silent, and I've had 0 issues with it. Downside is that it is heavier than the MWC fabbed 9". I would have gotten the MWC rear, but at the time money was tight and I got the S60 with a new driveshaft for less than what a 9" with a spool cost.

My rear has the Strange s-trac diff with 3.73s and for a street car its great.

Not sure what the wait time is for the fabbed 9, but the 12 bolt or s60 are probably a quicker turn around from Strange. Might just have to send them your backing plates.

Does the S60 weight the same as stock 10 bolt or heavier? The cost is almost double for the fabbed.

It's heavier than the 10 bolt by probably 35 pounds or so, not 100% sure. If you're not worried about the weight which I assume you're not taking things out of your car to lighten it, then it's the way to go.

I just prefer to do this once and make the right decision. I’m not going to track the car ever. I only did the motor work to update it to today’s standards. But now the rear is the weak link for sure. I’m going to try and get the rest of the summer out of my rear and then contact MWC and see what I can work out with them.
I appreciate your help and replies!

You got it man! Can't go wrong with the guys at MWC, but call Strange as well and get some quotes on a 12 bolt, S60, and 9".
