+1 With that car your gonna need a LOT of safety equipment, once you see how much you will probably lose interest, I know I did. There is a thread kicking around on here somewhere, that's where I read about it.

I do have the rule book and its steep.. even more that drag racing... but a 25.5 cage will pass but they like to see a 1 3/4 or 2 in roll cage 10 plus point. fire system and suit for over 160 or 180mph they go by ecta rules not texas mile rules which you can run 200mph with a 6 point bar.. and fred you will be fast so they might let you run but it might only be once.... 190+mph...

You're welcome!

Here's the website of the organization hosting the event.

http://lta-lsr.com/HOME.htm

It's this weekend (August 1st and 2nd), not sure if you could just show up and run or if you have to register ahead of time.

I wonder if ANYONE from here is going? hell I wonder what the overall turnout will be?! was this event to make money or a 'to keep it off the street' deal? cause they screwed up if it was the latter.

yeah let me just go throw on my firesuit that i have laying around the house, then install a cage and a fire suppression system just to top out my car stock. What a ridiculous set of rules. So if i brought a kia or a honda accord and trapped more than 130 I would need a cage?

I think it's really geared toward serious land speed, salt flats type enthusiasts as opposed to people who just want to see how fast their car can go.

Actually if you think about it the rules aren't that out of line, they are pretty similar to what is required at the drag strip based on trap speeds. At the strip you need a cage if you run 11.49 or faster, which is usually a trap speed in the 120's. But trap speed in a full mile will probably be about 50% faster on average than the 1320, so any car is going to need more safety equipment than it would to run at the strip. Don't get me wrong, it does suck for people like us, there's no way in hell I would put a roll cage in my car for a one-off event like this, nor would most people. But if you think about it in terms of trap speeds the rules make more sense.
