Looking for some advise on buying a new Harely
Looking for some advise from anyone who has purchased a new bike at a Harley dealer or knows the business. I am looking to buy a 09 Nightster MSRP $9,899. When I first talked to the guy I told him I have been working in the car business for the last 7 years to hint I know how dealers work. He instantly told me he wanted to take a grand of MSRP. It seemed pretty good to me until he came back and told me his sales manager will only allow $500. So I left and I went back today, a week later and told him I want to pay $8,800 for the bike. He told me he will call me tomorrow and said he can prob do $8,900. Do you guys think that’s a fair enough deal for this bike or do I have a little more room to move. 2010 models will be arriving in about 6 weeks so 09s will soon be left overs, plus its a buyers market.

That's a tough call, but $1,000 off on a $9,900 bike is over 10% off.
That seems like a good deal?
Plus if you ever trade it in for a big twin, they will give you MSRP for your Nightster.

Go to 3 different dealers and get prices from all. Harleys are not selling well this season---just like the new cars. Harley is in a little trouble. Warren Buffett loaned them over 350 million back in Feb., and HD laid-off over 1100 people in the last month...so it's definitely a buyers' market right now, especially with it being the end of the model year. Be careful who you finance with as well....big penalties for late-payments, etc....Good luck. WJ

Thanks for the info guys. The salesman told me he would "like" to take $1,000 off the bike right off the bat so next time I speak with him or another dealer ill just offer my thousand cash and a thousand off MSRP. I will post some pics if I get it. I may do the trade in for a Night train next year. They give you back what you pay for the bike if you trade it in within one year for a bigger bike.

For now, if you're set on a Sportster, I'd take the $1000 off and be happy. I'd be very surprised if you got anymore off, buyer's market or not.
Good Luck & ride safe.

New Rochelle gave me the same estimate. They do 10% off every bike they sell. They are Nys #1 selling volume dealer. The other CT dealers wanted me to go to them with a written estimate and are much farther from me.
