Default Speed Governor

I recently bought a 2002 z28. i have read that the car has a factory installed speed governor set at 162 mph. I live in virginia beach, va, and was hoping to find somewhere i could legally run the car up to the speed governor. I'm not much for street racing, i would hate to run over someones kids. So i was hoping someone might know a place i could take it to legally run it up that high. Thanks ya'll.

A tune can take it off and the best place to run it is at a track

Well I'm not from that area but I'm sure there is a track that can accomodate the speed you are trying to acheive

maybe an abandoned airport runway. but inspect it 1st before you do this. you dont want to hit a hole at 130 mph

There should be 1 mile or longer tracks available to you somewhere....honestly, otherwise there's not really many places to "legally" go over 162 mph....

Here and a couple other places do this. Texas does it and I think a place in Mass. You need a roll bar to run above 135mph and some other stuff or they will bounce you.

I will be there as a spectator for this>>>>>> http://www.ecta-lsr.com/?page_id=21

The navy bases there might allow this, but I cannont remember for the life of me. Besides that I've not found anywhere yet where they have anything longer than the 1/4 mile. I know in maine, limestone area, there is also an old air force base that has the 1.5 mile "top speed" challenges, but thats way up there from here.

Forgot to add, the limiter is there for a reason, usually so you dont blow out the tires....make sure they're rated high enough!

Z's are rated up to 165 I believe (maybe 167?)....might want to upgrade if you're pushing much more than that, a blow out at 170+ would basically mean your goose is cooked.

its in maine actually. 02 go to advanced search and search this section for "maine mile" I'd imagine they'll have another one this year. but fyi they require all sorts of safety equipment.

I'd imagine so, I got my slow LT1 near that speed before I got into the internals. just don't do what I did and get arrested. I have no idea of how many miles, I was cruising at 140 for quite some time before I matted it and really took off. besides slowing down is what you have to worry about

My 2000 SS when new all stock seemed to start to float at top end. Make sure the road is flat as well.

I've hit the limiter a couple times around 2am or so when there's no one on the roads I round 5th gear out around 6500 or close to that and then it starts to cut fuel or how ever the limiter works I know 50-150mph takes me around 8 to 9 seconds and where I always hit the limiter is id say a good mile.. if you were to ever do it it gets scary after you see your speedo bottom out

Your going to have a hardtime finding a place that is long enough for you to do 0-165mph

My suggestion is 2am on a nice long straight highway

I believe the Z28s were limited from the factory at 110mph because they came stock with 16" wheels and H rated tires. The SSs and WS6s were limited to 162 due to coming with 17" wheels and Z-rated tires.
