Default Outlaw 10.5 Real Street Update from NED

During the past couple of weeks we in the Tech Department have seen many cars running too fast without the proper safety equipment. At this time, we would like to advise the following categories.

10.5 Outlaw Series:
During the past weekend of competition, with the new breakout rule in effect, it was noticed that many of the 11.50 racers were running under the 11.49 mark without the proper safety equipment. In order to run safely at this E.T., the proper safety equipment must be installed. Such items as a roll bar, SFI approved seat belts, drive shaft loop. We will not tolerate cars running quicker than 11.49 without the proper equipment. All cars that do not follow the E.T. requirements per the IHRA rulebook or the New England Dragway handbook will not be allowed to compete. If any car runs quicker than 11.49 in qualifying will be given one warning. Any car in competition that runs 11.49 or quicker that may win that round or be involved in a double breakout will be disqualified. Multiple infractions will result in suspension from all competition until proper safety equipment is installed.

Jr. Dragsters:
In the test and tune sessions that have taken place to date, we have issued many warnings in regards to E.T.’s and MPH’s. We are asking all Junior competitors and parents to please make sure that you have your cars running in the E.T. period that you are licensed for. Per the IHRA rulebook, one warning will be issued for all cars running quicker than 7.80 or 85 MPH. Any subsequent violations on that particular day will result in disqualification. Any car that runs quicker than 7.70 for an E.T. will be disqualified immediately and will also have their IHRA Competition License suspended for six (6) months. We ask that you all please review your cars and the rulebook for all other safety requirements.

We in tech are not there to make things difficult for the racers. We are simply looking out for the safety of you, the person in the other lane and the spectators and track officials. To all racers, please review both the IHRA rulebook and the NED Handbook for all the safety requirements or specific class that you may be involved with.

Thank you all in advance for your cooperation and we look forward to a safe and fun filled 2010 racing season!

"Street cars" shouldn't need cages.

i dont blame NED its an insurance thing IMO

i would like to see IHRA/NHRA as a whole move the roll bar rule to 11.00 instead of 11.49 IMO

this is one of my pet peeves about tracks. I can understand they need to enforce the rule. and 11.50 index puts them in a position where they have either have to enforce or look the other way. Sounds like they no longer want to look the other way.

Two possible solutions
a. enforce the rule and punish those non-barred cars and turn away the revenue
b. Change the index to 12.0 and then you can keep that driver's revenue an maybe even expand the revenue earning potential and NEVER have to deal with an 11.49 non barred car.

What do they chose?

Revenue killer

Yea the whole idea with having the 11.5 class was so that street cars could still run it with out the bar, ect. I think a 12.0 class would be a little to slow to be fun for us faster guys...

Yeah i know but faster guys belong in 10.50, aspire, reach stretch

I drives me crazy that they want to boot racers because they are not legal for a number they they are NOT trying to reach because the track set it that way.

Self defeating at its finest.

Make it 11.67 or something else, just don't turn away custom...a class by any other name will still be as sweet

Roll bars required in "Real Street" does sound somewhat ironic huh?

To keep it plain and simple, the rule has always been 11.49 and faster needs a bar, so I really can't complain too much, but this puts me out of the series. 1 car down for sure. I am not going to dedicate a day to go racing when I am at a serius disadvantage against cars w. bars, and risk getting booted for the event, and poentially the season after a few slips. Lets face it, no matter how good you are, you will run under the number for one reason or another during the excitment of a race. (I just did it last Saturday infact )

My problems with putting a bar in my GTO are as follows:
1. wouldn't feel comfortable putting my 2 kids in the back seat knowing there is a chromoly bar directly in front of their faces, and removable cross bars don't pass tech.
2. If I ditch the idea of ever using the back seats again & install a bar, then I'm left with a 2 seat 3800lb drag car? Essientially a car that is not a comfy, 4 seat street car anymore, nor is it a good race car due to its weight. Kinda the worst of both worlds.

I'd love it if the class was an 11.6 index, then I could comfortably run the number, but thats not going to happen. So I'm back to just screwing around running high 11's on street nights again.

Sucks to hear Vinny, I was thinking its going to boot a bunch of us out. I already sacrificed the back seats, but it wont be any fun to race with out the rest of you guys there! I wonder if the old school cars that are all set up to race are complaining that the LS street cars are taking it down......

Well i think there should be no roll bars at all... if you break out dis is ok but thats what happens anyways.. and that should help with all the sandbagging too.. real street cars with no bars is what i would like to see.... regs checked inp stickers ect... and no slicks but thats just my 2 cents...

Last year you got DQ'd for running faster than 11.50.They should just bring back that rule and leave it there.

I like your idea derek or even as Don said leave it like last year so the cage guys dont have the advantage. Will be interesting to see how much of a disadvantage it puts us street car guys with no cage at. I fully understand the track having to enforce the rules but it still sucks. I will still race a few times this year just not all the races. Hope you guys do the same. It wont be nearly as much fun without you guys to hang out with. hopefully the air sucks next race and I wont be able to break out anyway. Just makes it a little more of a challenge. Too bad we have so many sandbaggers with 10 sec cars running an 11.50 class. The gray 5.0 mustang I ran last week went 11.23 @ 104. Think he let off a bit ?
