Default Can you tune a 2500 HD 6.0 for better fuel mileage

I have a 2015 2500hd with the 6.0 and it gets awful freaking gas mileage.

Looking to see what kind of success people have had tuning them.

Custom tuning through EFI Live or HP Tuners could most certainly do that. Adjusting air/fuel to where the truck runs lean outside of WOT would increase fuel mileage quite a bit.

yes you can to how much you get depends on your skill as a tuner. i got 1 mpg out of mine and there is more to be had Im sure. if you never tuned and don't have the software pay a good tuner its cheaper and faster in the long run

1 mpg may take a while to recover the cost of the tune.

I may just trade it in on a f150!

Get a 1500 then if you don't need the HD. The 1500 gets better gas mileage than even the f150 ecoboost.
I did a lot of research before I bought my truck. I have a 15 Canyon 4dr 3.5V6 4x4 and get 27 hwy and 20 city. New 8 speeds are even better now.

Ive seen 3-4 mpg increase on avg.
Take the fan clutch off and use efans and youll gain quite a bit plus run cooler and have better ac.
The tune more than pays for itself. The biggest fuel user is startup and accel from a stop really. PE is nearly off all the time on them, and honestly they really work better with it off unless you plan on being wot at any time above 5k.
With the proper setup and tune you can gain quite a bit if mpg without alot of money into it. The 4.10s that normally come in em are the real killer. 2500rpm at 70 kills the mpg. 3.73 is more than enough.

I have a 15 2500HD with 4.10s - AVG is between 12-13.5 on my regular commute. If you are towing - forget it...single digits on AVG with my sled trailer on. My old 6.2 was much better with much more power - but also a 1500.

Luckily I don't pay for fuel, if I did I would switch to diesel for sure. I guess we don't own them for fuel economy though

I got 1 mpg because of my skill level not because thats all they get. i'm not experinenced at tuning at all. I also do have 4:10s and clutch fan as well. I also tuned it without a wideband which is just shooting in the dark honestly. like the other post said 3-4 isn't uncommon

Plus the 2500 is a heavier truck.

The 4l80 is a diff tans also. and the 6.2 got the 6spd. so hard to compare. im sure a built 4l60 in place of the 4l80 would help on mpg and low end pulling power with the more aggressive gears.

You won't get any big gain. Depends on how the factory tune is working now.If it's off a lot then there is good gain. 11-14mpg is pretty average on those.
