Default LSX install has begun.....

I took the intake apart today and with a few pointers from Slowhawk I started working on porting the intake. The inside is pretty good except for some casting flash, one ridge that needs to be smoothed and the mouth where the tb sits has a slight amount of flash.

We made templates out of paper and traced my S1 LS6 heads, then cut them out and siliconed them to the intake so we can port the runners to the heads on Fri.

My lw steering wheel is in now and we reworked the Kirkey seat too.I believe its going to weigh 12lbs with brackets once is done.

My buddy Walt deserves alot of praise with some of this stuff,All I did was remove the intake and what not,he's helping me port the intake for and is making the brackets for the seats.

We reworked the 90MM TB with a double set screw and drilled into the shaft so the arm cant move and peened the bearing into the iac area.I'm going to try and get the ps air bag out too and get the car ready for Dec 4th at Atco.

I cant tell u how happy I am since doing my own work on the car,These cars are so easy to work on and the best part is I can make my own decisions good bad or indifferent and learn from it too.

So far everything I've done to my car has paid off..
Next up--------->Maybe a 10 Sec pass

I agree with doing it youself. So much better. Its not hard and you know where corners were cut, if any, rather than finding out the hard way.

I hear ya George,With my luck that just might happen..
I'd love to click off a 10.99999 with my fat *** in the car

Hopefully Atco will be cold on the 4th.Last time out the car went 11.16 at a DA hovering around 0 to +30 w/my boss driving.

This time I'm hoping for -1500 DA's too

I have TalonWS6 (135lbs) comming down to run the car just for S&G's....
My boss weighs 210 so I figure its worth alittle bit to throw Tommy in the car

Thanks for the info about the TB,it made it easy to fix those issues.
Have a great holiday George.

10's or bust.....

Yo Joel how is the build quality of the LSX? Is it built good? Any sensor problems? Also when does Atco close? I wanna make 1 last shot at the record this year before they close the track.

Theres a few tricks u need to know about this intake.I dont like the MAF sensor area and I dont like the fact it uses nuts/bolts where GM just used bolts on alot of stuff.Theres no provisions for certain things to mount and I tq'd everything w/my good digital snapon wrench as suggested.

We tweeked the TB too, that has issues and needed to be addressed.
Its done and looks bitchin.

We spent 7hrs porting it w/a tootsie roll and smoothed the short turn into the port going to the head. Then cleaned it up with 100 /340/600.The intake ports on my heads are small (velocity) and I matched it perfectly to the head.

SLOWHAWK gave me the info on where to port.
Don is the BEST

I have to clip the injectors on,mount the MAF to the TB and hook the throttle cable up and make sure we're seeing 100% on the TPS.We let it sit over night because there's a few spots between the intake that need RTV after u take it apart for porting.

I got a GREAT deal on the parts so for me it was worth changing the intake,I'm going to work on the dash today and finish up what needs to be done in the next week so I can get to the track in the next 10 days.

JS------------->Looking for 10's

JS,

Glad to see all is going well with the install. I've been thinking about swapping my LS6 intake with the LSX. I can't wait to see some track times/mph. Sounds like your serious about getting those 10's. If my memory serves me right Atco closes down from like 16-Dec to 16 Jan. Or something like that, so try to get it done within the 10 days you stated-Fred

Thanks guys....

Cars been runnin for about 2hrs off an on now.Seems to be learning in better and better,Holding an idle of 900 and revs very quickly. No leaks of anykind but I do have alittle surging, slow decay rate but I expected as such.Nothing more than an IAC check and a tweek to the fuel curve.

Gonna work on that tomorrow and start retuning this week.
Don buddy pal of mine,I'll call ya tomorrow

Car is running even better tonight, gonna take the car out this week and fine tune the LSX/90.Don u are the best, this CLOSE LOOP tune is awesome, all we need to fix are the IAC counts and check the PT/WOT A/F and she's ready for Atco.

The car is sucking up MASSIVE amounts of air

Well I'm lazy,I decided (More like persauded) not to take out the HVAC/Monsoon setup. My buddy who inspects the car said he can pass it under 5K miles but if must have defrost so the HVAC stays in the car.I thought long and hard and I cant take my radio out,I like listening to music too much.

The PASS air bag is gone, the cruise is gone, the steering wheel is gone and my new seat is done.
Thats a 45lb savings for all of that stuff which isnt bad, hopefully by the summer I'll be lighter too

I still have the TOMMY mod

Gonna drive the car on Thurs and final tweek it before Atco this Sat.

Isnt that the truth. Once you do something you get the hang of it and learn all the little quirks quickly. I've been lucky enough to have someone like Don teach me with my own car. At times he'll just ramble off a list of things and I'll go right at it. I was a little worried at first that I would goof up but I'm doing pretty well and I'm getting quicker with every new job. It's starting to become second nature to me now.

At times I just want to take stuff apart to put it back together.

I always worked on my cars but I got lazy last yr and didnt wanna do the work as I was getting frustrated with the ordeals I webt threw but once I went to the new setup and started wrencing on the car it became fun again.I like making mistakes, its the only way u learn. There's nothing wrong with taking a step or two backwards to go three steps forward.

I've been lucky as this new setup has performed flawlessly.Don has been a real friend,he has helped me threw this whole entire ordeal.I cant thank him enough,His tuning and my wrenching have rewarded me with,DARE I say a soon to be 10 Sec street/strip car.

I believe this week I will finally (with my own ideas) run 10's on motor.Don thanks a bunch for the tuning help,u are a true friend and car lover.

See u in the funny papers
10's or bust.....
