It might be similar to how CT and a lot of the rest of NE does emissions. They hook it up to the OBD2 and scan the readiness monitors and for SES codes, then take a quick look for cats and the AIR/EGR.

The first time I had it done they just plugged in to the OBDII port. Last time they said my car was to low and couldn't go over the rollers and gave a 2 year waver. You should'of seen the look on there face when I pulled up with G5X2 cam and bullets talking, then the guy looked in my car and seen the cage , and thats when he said something about it being to low.

I went in last time with a cage and big cam dumping raw 93 out the back - they let me drive it in cause they were afraid to drive it and plugged me up and sent me on my way. I plan to crank the Hals down low and go for the waiver this time - don't wanna risk someone with half a "green" brain to be working!

last time i went - my car was stock except for the LM catback, they just hooked up the obd...the guy doing the test asked me "Damn y0' y0u gOt flo0wmaztaz?" i just said "uhh yeah"
the shop that put on my headers and y pipe was explaining to me somekind of loophole in the laws for cats on certain year and model cars and ours fall into it so i shouldnt be worried about not having cats
