Default atv question

Quick question just wanted to get some opinions...

I currently own a yamaha warrior 350, high compression piston etc... now my question is I currently run a standard 10w 40 in it. I use GC in my Trans Am which is more like a 40, does it make sense to run it in the atv as well? You always hear such great things about it, so why not for an atv too? Are synthetics ok to use in those engines with the trans and everything all using the same oil? Thanks in advance!

Can't really help ya with exactly what you're looking for with the GC stuff... But I have been running your typical 4 stroke 10w30 YamaLube in my Raptor 660. I plan on using Amsoil synthetic for ATV's (4 stroke) next oil change though!
In my motorcycle I have been using Castrol SynTech for Motorcycles, which is synthetic and has worked great in each of my street bikes over the years! I say try the synthetic... if you like it and the bike is fine with it, keep it, if you find the clutch seems to slip or similar, ditch it and go back to petroleum based!

Yeah, I was thinking about giving it a try. The warrior is a 4 stroke as well. The trans is the only real thing I was worried about, but why not get the extra protection in the engine while I'm at it? I guess I'll try it on my next oil change. Thanks! Anyone else have an opinion on this?

i run strictly yamalube in my yfz450(although its expensive). i have never had issues with that....ive never heard of someone running synthetic oil in them but im sure it would be okay.

I run Amsoil 15w40 in my KFX400. That's all I've ever put in it and it has worked well for me.

That's a traditional oil, correct?

Synthetic/regular oil doesn't work well in the trans. Being that a Warrior motor/trans oil isn't split, I'd stick with the regular Yamaha oil, or Golden Spectro stuff. It works great...

I've owned just about every sport quad on the market, but that's just my oppinion.

On my 450R, I run the Honda recommended oil for the trans, and Golden Spectro synth. in the engine side.

IMO regular oil just doesn't work as well in the trans. Too thin for the clutch plates, etc.

If you want to take the time to research it up , go to www.exriders.com. Started as a Honda board, but now it's everything. Pretty much the LS1tech of ATVs. Just search in the Warrior specific section.

In a wet clutch application you will want to find an oil that meets JASO MA ratings. This is a frictional rating for wet clutches.

The 2 AMSOIL products that would be recommended for the Warrior would be the AFF 0w-40 and the MCF 10w-40. I would prefer the MCF as it also meets the GL-1 requirements which is great for the trans.

0w-40 - http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/aff.aspx?zo=1436102
10w-40 - http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/mcf.aspxzo=1436102
