New Toy Came Home Today
Kind of a spur of the moment purchase...got a deal i couldn't pass up on a 06 leftover 0 miles on the clock. My first bike EVER... before all the bashing starts i know i know it's a lot of bike to learn on. Took it out today and put about 10-15miles on it, felt awesome! Everything about it seems to fit me real well. Going to take the safety course before i get out on any major roadways.
Decided to bring it home on the back of the truck seeing as i didn't want my maiden voyage to be from the dealership

thanks guys! yeah i know the roads are still crappy...i think the rain made it worse.. the new tires are real slippery to. Ok so far though i haven't gone past 40mph yet Definitely feels A LOT faster than my car
Krazy - going to go out tooling around my block all day tomorrow!
The only problem i have is in 06 the r6's got 1-1/2" higher so im on my toes when the bike is upright..the dealer said the shock/spring should settle about a 1/2" once i put a few miles on it..if not i'm just going to grab a lowering kit

break the tires in for a little while.
i took the safety course, it helped like you dont even know. your taught alot of things that you wouldnt know on your own. the bikes at the course are alot easier to lean, turn and handle too so you'll get a good base to learn. i hate safety courses and any kind of school but i would do it all over again if i had to.
not to mention the discount on your insurance. btw, how much is insurance for that bike, how old are you and what step (insurance step) are you?

I just got mine quoted, I have 14 points, I'm not getting medical, basic is $352 fire and theft is $480
Mine has the lowering kit, just so you know it kills the handling, maybe think about shaving the seat like i did

yea it's really inexpensive. i thought it would be crazy money being as young as we are (******* forgot how old i am, 1981 minus 2007...ok i'm 25 right now). i've been arrested, put in jail and and stopped more than anything but the record itself is clean, nothing ever went on the record.
the course is cool, you'll feel so much more comfortable on the road. my older brother let slowhawk put 35+ miles on his bike, leaning it and stuff. don use to kind of race them so it was my brothers safest bet so he wouldnt wipe it out just because the tires were slippery for a few miles. slowhawk drive the bike home in the pouring rain, so bad that cars were pulling over but don's flying down 93 south in the rain with new tires. i was praying for him.
if you dont mind, pm me with how much you spent on the bike. just wondering if i came across a leftover bike for xxxx dollars, if it's a good deal or something.

Damn Timmy you really blind sided us on that one. I had no idea you were still considering buying a bike. Thats a sweet looking bike. Just be careful. Hey at least its a Yamaha, you made a good choice.

Nice choice Tim for a first bike... You'll like it I am sure. I was going to say what Joe just mentioned, let someone with more experience (if you want) break in the tires for ya so they're not slippery! They can be "cleaned up" in only a few miles to get rid of the "new coating" with the right rider.
Good luck with it and be safe. Wear a leather coat and gloves at all times if possible! They've saved my *** in the past! Happy Riding!
Oh, let me know if it gets hot riding the R6? I have read that the exhaust on the R1 which I imagine to be almost identical to the R6, gets really hot for the rider due to where it's routed....
PS- I still have the SLP hood sitting in the basement.. LoL

Very Nice, be safe man.
I've been eyeing bikes but I'm to old for something like that, 27 lol, hurts my back
I'm thinking more like V-rod, for my own safety (slower and loud pipes). Not anytime soon though.
have fun and be safe, remember when your riding you gotta be defensive traffic is unforgiving to bikes and act like your not even there.
