Default What types of racing are available on the east coast?

I'm wanting to participate and get serious into racing but unsure which direction I want to take. Some of the things I know; want to keep it on the asphalt/ hard surface... no dirt. Doesn't have to be a full size car.. Just help me out with some ideas here guys. I'm willing to travel a little bit but unsure as to whats out there. I drove a nascar today at the monster mile (dover) and I'm wanting to get into racing badly, ( other then 1/4 mile here and there) pretty much want a car specifically built for what I'm going to do.

autocross, drag racing, open track, scca, paved oval........all depends on your budget and your interest. there are races you can get into with your everyday street car, races you can get into with a $500 compact beater and a little elbow grease.
are you looking for something to grow into a more serious competitor or just for fun?
how much $$$$ do you have to put into your operation?
interested in open wheel? sports car? "stock" car?

everything is available around here, you jsut have to pick a direction basically.

and why no dirt?
