Default MT Drag Radials or Nitto 555's

I have an extra set of rims I want to put Drag Radials on for when I go to the track, not daily driving.

Based on everyones reviews I already assume that the MT's hook better, but the Nittos last longer.

I have to drive 2 hours to the track and 2 hours back.. I will only put them on before I go up and take them off when I get back. Do you guys think the 4 hours of driving, probably once or twice a month this season, will wear out the MT's too quickly? I have no experience with DR's thats why I ask.

Thanks,
Nate

Nitto's are crap IMHO, I like the BFG radial t/a's. The MT'S are very soft compound and yes they will wear out on the street very quickly. $.02

MT's are an awesome DR but there's a good chance of breaking your rear with an M6 and those tires. Never tried BFGs and Nitto's are decent for the $. Why not just switch out the rims at the track?

Well I wouldnt mind throwing them in the back of the car and changing them when Im up there, but Im scared of someone steeling my wheels, jack and tools. Is there anywhere up there I could safely put my stuff? This is at New England Dragway btw.

I do the same thing with my MT DRs. Do it and you will not be disappointed. I can't imagine ever using a different drag radial for the strip.

Ive owned them both, IF I had to pick one OR the other it would be M/T, IF I had to get at least 12k miles on them then Nittos

Actually I just bought Nittos to put on my 17's for the street since the price diff between real street tires and nitto's were less then 10$.

I have a set of 16's which is going to get the M/T's so i bought BOTH!

Couldn't say I live in Jersey. Wouldn't be a bad idea to have a buddy go up with you with a beater and throw them in his car.

I've had 275 and 315 nittos when the car was daily driven , i got good mileage out of them and were even good in the rain, i just got MT 275/40 and they hook up awesome!! but you wont even get close to the mileage from the mt's and dont get caught in the rain, if your running a stock rear be prepared to purchase a new one using either tires

MT's are an awesome tire. I got a full season out of them with street driving and probably 25 passes at the track. driving in the rain isnt bad. just be careful and dont drive stupid and you will be ok. I ran nittos before the mts and will never got another set again. in my opinion they are just a hair better than a decent street tire. although this year i think im gonna run Hoosiers d/rs

Nitto's are great as an everyday tire for your car. Personally I can't believe why guys run the vr/z rated tires on the street when the Nitto's are in the same price range. I'll add though the M/T dr's are about as good as your going to get next to a slick tire. The BFG dr's have always been my choice, but with the outcome of the M/T dr's I'd never consider anything else. I guess it depends what you can afford and how long a tire needs to last you.

mt drag radials. i run them all the time (have an extra set of wheels but never put them on) and probably go through about 2 sets a year/season. i would never use another tire for the sole fact of their consistency. i am never caught with my pants down running street tires, so it's worth it to me to run them all the time.

nitto's will last longer, but to get them to hook worth anything you have to burn the living **** out of them, im talking a 10 second smokey 2nd gear burnout. see how long they last doing that every time you make a pass. if you don't melt them the car just doesn't hook, simple as that.

mt's all the way not even a question.

just saw the car in question is STOCK. get the nitto's, they'll hook fine for ya. when you overpower them step up to mt's. usually around mid/low 12's the nitto's become very inconsistent.

From Sandwich, right by exit 3 on Rt 6. How often do you go up to the track?

You guys have convinced me to buy both I think. Nittos for the street and MT's for the track.

And if the rear end breaks I guess I'll have to upgrade I plan on doing mostly suspension stuff to the car before horsepower. I am somewhat compulsive though... hopefully I can refrain myself from buying ****. Its never ending

i only got to race twice last year because of time and money, plus did some work on it. i hope to get up there more this year. opening day is in 2 1/2 weeks prob just goin up to watch then..the cars not ready yet needs suspension and tires. u might as well save ur money and get a set of 15's and 275/50 m/t's for the track. nittos will do fine on a stock car, if u go up in april u can use the rest of my nitto's to try them out. should be enough for a street night. plus the nittos will let ur 10 bolt last a lil longer with that 6spd

Go with the MTs for the track. I keep Nittos on my 17s for normal driving on the street and am grabbing a set of ET Streets for my 16s strictly for the track. The Nittos are a good street tire as they last a long time and are way better than street radials, but they don't hook at the track very well if you're putting any kind of decent power down.
