I understand the need to preserve firearm rights for all citizens. Living in PA, it was very easy to get a concealed weapon permit. I really do feel for you MD folks. The petition makes a weak connection between the violent crime rate and the need to carry weapons. Even if weapons permits are issued in MD, the violent crime rate will probably not be affected, as the caused of violent crime are due to many other issues. Even though I have a weapons permit, I will not carry a weapon. Unless you are trained to handle a firearm and knowledgeable in the law, guns will only escalate the situation above and beyond. Unfortunately in PA, regardless of training, people are issued concealed weapons permits. That scares the s*** out of me! This is just my opinion though.
