Default old school philly street racing

all the older guys will appreciate this vid....shows some of the serious stuff that used to travel the streets down there on the weekends.....when it used to be a great time..the good ol days:

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=JPLFzG...eature=related

and of course what its now become...11 years later, on the same exact road:

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=qfI-L5...eature=related

I was young then, but I remember that Malibu Wagon. But I stand true to my believe racing belongs at the track.

I must be the old guy. I started going down I was 14 my brother 16. It was in 86/87 and there was some crazy stuff down there. Make no mistake the power on the streets today blow away what was thought to be quick back then. I use to love hanging out on 11th street next to JFK for those who remember those times. It would go all night long sometimes till almost dawn. Everything back then was all N/A to see something with juice was unreal. Something with boost unheard of. If you had a mid 12sec car you ruled except for the roll back cars. I remember some of the cars in the vid that was 61st street old Jerrys Corner. That is the Sunday afternoon races started at 5 only lasted till about 7 usally. Nice memories, thats about the time I gave up Philly to much trouble at the starting line (money exchanging hands) and people with guns. In 92 I gave up cars and started racing bikes up there that was fun... Thanks for the flashback..

My brother had a 79 z28 4sp. We used to push it down the hill at home to sneak out. That was at like midnight. And then there was the lakes across the street under the bridge thats a whole other story.. What a mess those days were. I had no business being up there for my age at the time I held my brother hostage...

yeah...alot of good times back than. sunday afternoons on 61st were the best. it was insane watchin the races during the day (5-6pm). we would park in that parkin lot and walk up to the action and watch for hours at a time without a cop in sight. cops would come and it was back across the platt bridge towards Darien st/11 st/front st for somemore action. didnt have to worry about being shot and we didnt have to worry about some idiot car jackin you. good times.

I do remember all those long nights Ty,
Rick we were all down there around the same time, because were all the same age, but sundays were just different, we would always plan leaving the shore so we could hit the races for awhile

Ah good times, oh and BTW
Next time at the shop Rick ask Ty what happened to his brand barely broken in Mustang

I started racing down there in 83 at Wheatcheaf,Meadows,Front,11th,61st,State Rd.,Bud Plant,Woodhaven,Blvd..

I even remeber going to Decatur in my brothers 67 Vette and my other brothers 70 429SCJ Torino..

Boy was that a fun time.
I remember seeing not 1 but 2 GSX's in one night,or 3 69 Pace Cars Camaro's,or 3 or 4 440 6-Pack Cuda's or 3 or 4 LS6 Chevelles or a SD TA or 2...

I even ran this trailer car once on Wheatcheaf. The car came off the trailer with open headers and tunnel ran and the guy was rowing it.I was in my 11 SEC 72 Chevelle SS 454....He got me by a fender and came over and shook my hand and said, kid that thing runs good...

I was all smiles at the time...

Then I built my Nova..
I was one of the 6 or 7 guys at the time with a PRO STREET CAR which back then meant tubbed and caged...

There was Pete Price with is BEAUTIFUL Blown GTO,Paul Sanders with his 67 Camaro, the guy from Pottstown with the Chevy powered Mustang,Randy Farber with the 69 BB Camaro,Me in my 70 BB Nova, and a guy with a 55 BB Chevy that was friends with Squeek and Vince with the 64 Blown Nova..

It was cool to be one of the guys that had one in the area...We use to go to the Pottstown Movies and park there for shows. They wouldnt let u park unless your car was nice..

There were other good hangouts too like the Meadows,Redlion Rd.etc....
God I miss those days,U could build a car for 15K.....
