Stripped the crank threads trying to get the stock pulley off.. can anyone help??

Stripped the crank threads trying to get the stock pulley off.. can anyone help?? Well after owning all the f-bodies i have and tons of projects and fixed i finally screwed up. I stripped the threads inside of the crank trying to remove the crank pulley. The only reason I went to replace the damn pulley because my belt slipped off the stocker 2 times already. Anyway I have read that people re-threaded this with a tap or used Helicoils. Now I'm gonna have to drive my FRC everyday. Anyone have any experience with this from the area? Thanks

Carlton, not from the area but heli-coil will fix the problem. They are stronger than the parent material. I have a OTC GM puller for stock pulleys if you think it will work to pull the pulley free to you . lmk ted

i did it with an old 1g sbc(350 swapped in my 80 cutlass) ****** pepboys puller dug straight into the threads so i through a heli coil in and continued to beat the life outta the car. it's been awhile so i dont want to tell you bad info but if you buy a kit it will come with instructions and im sure most mechanics wouldnt mind telling you exactly how to do it.

you can buy a arp bolt its a little longer and will reach new threads or i think its the blue cranck bolt for a super charger pully. again its longer to reach new threads. a healie coil will work as well, shouldnt throw off any balance

Just heli-coil it. Its easy to get a right angle drill in there. Or like noyzee said above, if there are enough threads you might be able to catch some deeper ones. Just clean up the damaged part first though.

Thanks fellas.
What size Heli-Coil do i need? I couldn't even find the right size tap 16x2.0 Anywhere!! ALso I damaged the threads and didn't even get the stocker off yet

I would like to thank everyone for the responses. Especially thanks to lastcall190 for hooking me up with the longer bolt and the install tool. I was able to tap the threads and once i got the new pulley on I was able to use the brand new GM crank bolt! I would also like to thank 1 hot SOM WS6's boy for the nice LS1/LS6/LS2 crank pulley remover made by blue-point part number YA9740B!! I would recommend this to anyone It removes the crank pulley without touching the treads!! The TA is gonna get a 120 mile roadtrip tomorrow. I'm so glad i don't have to daily drive my C5 anymore
