Anything's possible really, it all depends on how far you want the tire to bow out. I run 275s on my 9.5s because I like the sidewall flush but I'm sure you can fit a 295 with no problem.

There is people on here that have run 315's and there are a hand full of people 335's. According to tire places a 295 would be the limit. If you would want to run a wider tire spend a few bucks and wider rear rims. It may safe a lot of money in the long run from accident. If you want more traction go to a drag radial like a nitto 555R street use is great and traction is better than a street tire. Plus it has a full tread design to avoid hyrdoplaining. But that is my 2cents

do not run. a 315 on a 9.5 rim. i know every one says they do it but to each there own. widest i would go is a small 275.like sumitomo. you can get some 10.5 or 11 inch rims cheap here online.

Having been involved with tire design & research for 28 years, I would say a 285 is the largest section width you should use on a wheel which is 9.5" wide. As stated above, you could shove just about anything onto the wheel, but would it perform as you want? I can also say that the 315 on a 9.5" wheel would not perform up to its potential. It would perform OK but thats about it. The shoulders of the tire would not have the contact pressure that they should have.

You can run a 315 tire on a 9.5, but the tire is really too wide for the rim, and pulls the bead in, tapering the sidewall and "rolling" the contact patch of the tire. So while the answer is yes they will fit, you no longer technically have a 315 tire, as the edges of the contact patch are pulled away from the road.
Assuming you want DRs, either run a 275 (the MTs are lethal) or get 17x11s.
