Default a Box tune picked up 3 TENTHS OF A SECOND!!!!

i took my bone stock white car out to Gainesville last night and first run with a passenger and a 3/4 tank of gas i run a 13.97 at 99 mph. on the way back i loaded a modified tune i stumbled upon in the Tune Repository and netted a 13.65 @100 mph the very next run. i've included both logs. i am very impressed as this car is a "stock to the filter" 1998 Z28. so there's just some food for thought with people on the fence of tuning a stock car.

yeah she went along for the second run that got me booted. i knew the rules but had a fart after i made the 13.65 pass but it was too late. oh well. WAY worth it IMO. i will be going back next week with new 555Rs and a 100 shot. i'm hoping for mid 12s. if anyone is interested in the tune just pm me and i will send you the tune.

I am going to try and go to Gainesville raceway next Wednesday. Maybe I will see you there. My best so far is in my sig.

Why did they boot you for the passenger, no helmet or what.

note, if you put the wrong OS tune in your 98 pcm, you will permanantly kill the pcm. BE SURE the OS part numbers match, if you want to try a random internet tune on your 98 pcm.

if you are thinking of spraying I would consider a stall conveter I have seen a few detonated motors due to spraying with a stock stall not to mention a stall will put you in the mid to high 12s any way I had a bone stock 01 t/a with a 3000 stall ran 13.9 before stall ran 12.9 after stall and tuning. this speaking if your car is an auto becuase I dont know lol

i'm not trying to stall it as i drive it everyday and i dont wanna deal with DDing a finiky stall. i'm actually very happy with the 13.65 and plan to go next wednesday to try 13.5s with a smoother tune a fresh set of 555Rs. maybe lose a few pounds as i'm swapping interiors with my WS6.

A good built lock-up stall will not be noticeable when driving normal, only when you nail it. Gotta agree w/Performabuilt on this one. No other mods you will pick up on avg 6-8 tenths from the right TC. I would go 3000-3400 FTI or similar quality (give Lashway a call....they are releasing a new billet series). You will not regret it guaranteed.

honestly I had a 3000 stall in mine with 2.73 grs and you could not even tell it had a stall in it untill you flat footed it. the ls motors love stall they dont "slip" alot at low rpm because the ls motors comparibly to other motors dont have alot of low end torque they actaully peak at around 4000 rpms so with the right stall converter you will not really notice much daily driving but i guarantee you will get a grin from ear to ear when you nail it furthermore the low gearing of the 4l60e in 1st gear help this matter also with not feeling the stall at lower rpms like the old 3spds which had considerably higher 1st gear ratios. you are planning on installing nitrous you cant spray untill around 3 gran anyway so you need to be able to get the rpms up so you can spray off the line or as close to as possible or you really wont net much ET maybe some MPH as your time is made through the first 600 feet of the run. you take a big chance of detonating your motor with a stock stall due to the load that is on the motor which a stall takes off. I really would consider this you will gain more with the stall than you will with the nitrous at this point and even more with the stall and nitrous. like i said without the stall the nitrous most likley will not net you much ET due to not being able to spray untill above 3 gran and taking a risk of detonating due to load.

im actually considering a 3200 vig stall. mine is pretty much stock right now. i do have 1 7/8 lt headers and an nx maf plate system that will be going in as soon as my 02 sensors come in and a few odds and ends for the n2o kit. my z has 3.23 gears. cant wait to get it all bolted up and TUNED!! this bitch is gonna fly.....

I understand you not wanting to stall it, I was real worried at first mine has been stalled for almost 3 weeks and it drives great. Most of the time you cannot tell it is there, but when you hit it she is gone. It actually shifts much smoother than stock, no more banging when it shifts, unless your foot is in it. It feels like a whole new beast when you get into it though.

I had Doc @ EFI Alchemy tune the car after the stall and it also made a world of difference. I am really glad I did it. But to each there own. Good luck.

Listen to the folk that have been there. Every auto guy I know has a stall. Many of those are daily drivers. trying to go fast with an auto and no stall is like installing N2O and being to scared to hit the button. Pointless...
