Standing 1/2 mile Airstrip event near Tallahassee Just saw this on another forum. Hope mods to mind me posting.
Carrabelle Speed Festival - New Date - July 30th, 2011!! New Low Price!!
WannaGOFAST.com is proud to present our first event of the New Year the Carrabelle Speed Festival. It will take place at the Carrabelle-Thompson airport in Carrabelle, FL. This event is all about speed! Test your vehicle and driving skills on an open runway. We will be doing standing HALF MILE races all day long!! The best part is that we are allowing head to head competition instead of solo runs like other airstrip events. The theme will be classic grudge match style racing. Hit speeds you only dreamed about on a ¼ mile track in a fun and safe environment!
Come join us for what is sure to be an exciting day of speed and entertainment! We will have a live DJ spinning tracks all day long and food provided from the Pit Stop Grill!
Our 2 sponsors for the event are TopSpeed Motorsports of Atlanta, GA and Unique Audio of Destin, FL! TopSpeed Motorsports (http://www.topspeedtuned.com) is one of the premier tuning and performance shops in the nation! Their Nissan GT-R just recently won the One Lap of America this past May! Steve I messaged them and it's a 1/2 mile plus a 1/4 mile of shutdown room. So a total of a 3/4 mile track. Where else are you gonna find this besides the Texas mile though? I imagine it was tough just to get through all the regulations etc.

Steve the South FL event got shut down by the county I've been told this is the only airport event in the State of Florida. Even though this distance is shorter I think it's cool that they are letting people race each other heads up instead of just solo runs. I'd imagine that could get pretty boring?? Who knows.

I really wish they would bring back the mile events down here. $85 does sound like a lot though. But compared to the mile, runs will go way faster due to two cars at the same time and only half the distance. It would take like an average of almost 2 mins between runs at the mile and that was only one car at a time.

Jeeper's wasn't Milemarker1 $150? $85 seems about right for a 1/2. I looked on their Facebook page and there's already some heavy hitters signed up. I agree with the 2 at a time cutting down on the run times people will actually get their money's worth.

If it was a mile I would attend. My last time out I ran 175mph in my totally stock car. Now I have my mods sitting in my garage waiting patiently for me to get myself motivated. So the 1/2 mile just does not have the appeal for the high horsepower cars to me.

I understand the whole mile thing but seriously it has to be ridiculously hard to get access to a runway like that. Most of the runways with that kind of length are high traffic areas. At least something like this is happening. If a 1/4 mile is fun than a 1/2 will be even funner. At least you get to race people instead of yourself.

I agree 100%....
Sad thing is, is that we have had several 1 mile events right here, 1 hour away from my house towing a trailer. So, some guys it's difficult to imagine less...since we had it soooooo good.
But,..again, I agree with you. It won't be boring,...just a hell of a ride.

Just playin' with ya. Yeah they charged $150 for registration, had a promo going for the first event to get people signed up for $100 for ls1tech members. But it was $200 at the gate if you didnt pre-register.
A half mile couild be pretty fun since my car usually shines in the back half of the quarter, would be fun to see how it kept up with some of those high dollar cars past 120mph

I'm going and looking at it as mainly a 1/4-mile event with a little extra fun at the end. Plus I figure it'll be a nice, quick little vacation in a quiet (short of our cars) area.

I've heard they are going to try and do 3-4 per year. They only have 4 spots left for this event. Some pretty awesome stuff has signed up on their Facebook page. Just type in wannagofast and you will find them.
