Could be any set of head. Really depends on your setup and your goals. Like ported 5.3's, or ported 241's/243's or could go the ls3way but u need a new intake

Tfs 215's, AFR 205's, or PRC 217/227's. Milled and or thinner gaskets to get around 11.5 scr and fly cut pistons.

I'd use ported 5.3 heads unmilled.

Hell yes...cheap, effective, more compression, all the power you'd want.

Thank 67RS later...

Before any good recommendation can be made it would be helpful to know what car you have (year, model), what trans, what current mods (all of them) and if an auto, what rear gear ratio you have.

AFR, TFS and MAST are the best of the best when it comes to heads, but by far not the cheapest. But you do get what you pay for. Plus they do not need a large cam (MS4) to make good power.

For an inexpensive head that works, TEA has fantastic programs that come within 10-15 HP of the AFR's.

When you start talking about the $1000-1100 heads it is usually not worth the total cost (heads, gaskets, bolts, extra labor) for the gains you get. These heads will generally need a cam with approx 8-10 more degrees duration to match the power of the heads meantioned previously.

So tell us what you got and we can go from there.

All good points...and I agree on the $1000-$1100 power per dollar reference, which is why I like 5.3's

I will put up the TEA 5.3's against any of those mentioned when it comes to hand ported or CNC ported stock castings.

And do not just look at the flow numbers that folks advertise. We have found two similar heads that flow 300 CFM at .550" lift with an open port can be quite different once an intake manifold is bolted on.

A good head (TEA 5.3) will drop approx 15-20 CFM with an LS6 intake on it and I have seen the lesser cost heads drop 30-40 CFM with and LS6 intake on them.

So be sure to make a fully educated decision. And that still requires the full current mod list and future decisions for the proper ending. Budget should play a big part in it for sure.

Ok well I thought the TSP and Patriot ones were milled. Sorry for the mistake. I was thinking of a local shop or guy that worked them for cheap. I would like to find a set soon.
