Default Hi all, LSX swap

Hi all,
My son suggested this project because a couple of his friends have Mustangs they tinker with and he drives a Corolla. I bought the car in the attachment for cheap, a T56 from a 99 Z28 and recently an 03 LQ9. We rebuilt the T56, fingers crossed, and now have the engine pretty much disassembled. Really only looking to cam swap, headers and tune. Posting this hoping to get a lead on a machine shop in the area, I'm in Clearwater. I've called a few places but hear good and bad. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Engine history unknown want to get the block hot tanked, new cam bearings, tolerances checked... Guess you don't know a local shop?

You have a great LS shop in your area called "All American Street Car Performance" I have used Shaun a few times, always satisfied with services and price. He's not a machine shop but has built and installed lots of LS engines.

Spoke to him yesterday. Didn't get a machine shop name but he did tell me what it would cost for his shop to assemble. That's not what I want. I'm no expert but want to assemble it ourselves.

The Engine Lab in Tampa does good work. I've had them do a few motors for me. It may be a bit of a drive for you though.

ive done a number of ls swaps, even in nissans.

never used a machine shop. inspect the engine and make sure its in good condition. if its not, get another. put cam in and drive the car.

unless youre going for some 1500 hp full forged crazy engine, oem out of a junkyard is fine.

Need to agree, pop the heads off and see if the cylinder walls look good if they do run the engine, not worth the money to let a machine shop look it over.

Phil at United Speed World are in North Tampa is great, as is Engine Lab in South Tampa. There are several really strong engine builders over in Clearwater, not sure if they do machine work only. Nelson Competition builds quite a few serious race engines, and they are over in Pinellas Park by Showtime in the Industrial complex. I do agree with most of these guys though. Fuel Injection and modern oil has made it so that these engines don't need rebuilds like older engines do. I would have probably just popped the #1 main cap off, took a look, and if good put it back together (with new bolts) and run it. Since you pulled the rods and pistons already, you are going to need to get them resized. You'll need a set of ARP bolts, and a set of oversized OD rod bearings. The machine shop should be able to get them for you.

you dont need to get rods resized, arp bolts, or bearing just because you took it apart.

hopefully everything was kept in order, and just put it back together.

I was under the impression that the rod bolts were TTY, and thus throwaways. If not, even better. I have been running aftermarket rods in all my builds, so it was never even a concern for me.

the rod bolts yes, but you can just put stock replacments back in without any machine work or replacing bearings.
