KC 130's In south florida
I know that this is kinda in the wrong forum but I figured that I would ask the locals for some help.... I am a Marine who is gonna be getting out in two years and is gonna look to possibly swap services to stay in my job and be a reservist... Do any of you know of any bases (from any services around south florida, miami mostly that have C130's on them) (BTW They are big grey prop planes if you didnt know) Thanks

No! The closest air bases in South FL would be the Keys. Its a Navy base. But its shutting down. North FL you have Pensacola (not sure if they got C-130s) And i few bases over on that side and Jax over on the East side (where im stationed- thats goin to be the P-3 base in 2012). Macdill is in Tampa thats airforce so i dont know whats there. And i think Patrick is shut down over in the cocoa area. I think that wraps it up. Someone chime in if i missed one or im wrong.

JB, whats your job with these aircraft? I know like my job being a mech, No matter what platform I go to. There are always somethings that will cross over.
Don't the p3-Orions Have the same engine as the c130's? (only really matters if your a mech I suppose)

Very true. I am Comm/Nav and switched from C-5 to C-17. Planes were different but the switch wasn't too bad. A heavy is a heavy. May be a little different going from heavy to fighter....

2 years is forever in what you are doing. Been there done that. I had 12 years active duty service. Your service will count for all kinds of civil service cross over things. Keep an open mind-don't limit yourself to what you are doing right now. The service recognizes that the amount of total b.s. you have put up with already is actually a very marketable skill and you can cross train to do anything, really. If I were you (C130J model qual'd) I would put in for the world's greatest rock and roll show in blue and gold before I exited stage left-I had the time of my life with those guys and now am fully vested, converted Career Civil Service.
