Tampa area members inside please
Am considering a move to the Tampa area, more specifically the Sun City, Brandon, or Bradenton area. Any negatives about this area? Thus far have heard only good things & would like to hear opinions from local residents. Thank-you

Lots of clubs, lots of cruises, great 1/4 mile track not far (Bradenton), fun 1/8 mile track in St. Pete/Clearwater. Several good LSx shops nearby. HPDE not far, at Sebring. Other good tracks for drag and road course within a reasonable distance (Gainesville, Moroso).
I would be careful of land/house values in Manatee County (Bradenton) and south Hillsborough. Among the bubbliest in the nation. Sun City has a ton of retirees.
If it were me, I'd try and be closer to the water. It's more fun, and the weather is better. Even a few miles makes a noticeable difference. Be careful of how far it is to the freeway. The surface streets can be hell. We live in far south Pinellas (St. Pete.) and love it. If you need a McMansion, those other places are better choices.
Job market is healthy but a little lower-pay than some areas. That's typical of a resort/vacation area. Maybe the best gun laws in the nation. NO state income tax, no emission/vehicle inspections!
All in all, a great place to be a gearhead.
Oh, and maybe check out tamparacing.com and corvetteflorida.com for more input.

Brandon/ Valrico/ Riverview area's are all nice, close to tampa, and are all growing, not terrible traffic, and Rev Extreme is right in the Brandon Area for dyno time and automotive "help." Lots of military folks out here (i am one) and not terribly bad housing prices... If you got the $$$ the Palm Harbor/ Tarpon Springs area in Pinellas County is nice, we just hated the commute to Tampa area from there, they are just north of the Clearwater area.

Brandon area is overly congested IMO. Sun city full of old people, Bradenton has the track but less things to do overall. I'd say it depends where you get a job at, you do not want more than a 20 minute drive because that is really 40 minutes. Traffic sucks in the Tampa area.

Ok thanks,
We're most likely not going to be right in Sun City. It is one of the Cities that I could remember that is close to the area that had been recommended to us. We're just looking for a quiet, safe place w/ descent schools. We're gonna spend some time in the area before making the final descision. Thanks again.
