I saw that a few months ago its was 30mph then though and i think this law is for cars too not just bikes. but like said a above just find a road out in the country with nothing on it and you should be fine.

Yes, the law applies to cars as well. As stated, most bikes run from us anyhow and now with a stiffer fine they definitely aren't going to stop, so I'm not sure if this will really have any effect. 2 other laws went into effect on Oct 1 as well. 1 is a statute making doing a wheelie a moving infraction and the license plate on bikes must be horizontal to the ground, also a moving infraction.

I guess the LT. they quoted in that article has never been 150 mph, its beyond his imagination? Stock LT1 cars went that fast a long *** time ago, 4th gens feel soooooo good at that speed. If he got in a Fbody and went 150 he probably wouldn't think he was going 150.

Yeah there are plenty of straight roads in FL in the middle of no where, don't be one of those idiots on I-75 doing 90+ in the 55.

I'm surprised it passed too, agreed the bikers def. won't stop.

Isnt the law that past a couple months ago for cars 30mph or more over the speedlimit an automatical courtdate? So is it different now?

i dont think the people doing 50 over are the kind of people that stop when they see blue lights, so more people will run and drive stupid which has the potential for causing a wreck. this is a dumb law.

I don't think "automatical" is a word.

Stupid law IMO. People are now more likely to run seeing that the consequences are greater.

Nope, 30+ is still a court date. But now 30-49 over will have a max fine of $500, think 4 points, and probably driving school from the judge. You can get as many of them as your DL can handle over the years and the judge can't impose anything greater than mentioned above. 50+ will still be a court date but on your 1st offense you can be fined up to $1000. Unlike 30-49, additional 50+ infractions will result in stiffer penalties up to and including arrest.

Why is this even an issue? Ill admit to doing 10 or so over the speed limit when Im in a hurry but I never have even thought about doing even 30 over, much less 50?

Officers shouldnt even have to give out citations like this much less this be a topic on a forum. Do you relize that on most roads the speed limit is 35-45. Why should you be doing 65-75 on major streets?

As far as 50 over the limit thats unthinkable. Most of the time speeding motorcycles are only really a danger (In terms of injury) to the rider but at 85-95 MPH your ride becomes a very dangerous weapon that can go through windshields.

I totally agree with you and to be honest, I don't think this will be a commonly used thing. I run a butt load of radar every day I work, and have done numerous highway task forces during holiday weekends and am yet to get anyone beyond the 30's over the limit. There is always going to be the oddball from time to time, but for the most part it's business as usual.

I think the entire purpose behind this new law is 2 fold. (1) it makes the guys in Tallahasee look good for passing it and taking such bold steps towards curbing excessive speeding (even though we all know it will hardly ever be used); (2) this right here. Word is on the street about this and I bet every car / bike forum has a thread about this going on. Is that going to cause people to slow down or maybe think twice about opening it up?? Maybe, maybe not, but it certainly has people talking.

Eh, horizontal to the ground? That makes it sound like they need to be parallel with the ground. Don't they mean perpendicular? I heard it referenced this way on the radio also.

Just to clarify, are license plate violations moving or nonmoving, and is this an exception to either?

I know exp tag is non moving, but I'm not sure about improperly displayed tag for a vehicle, think it's non moving as well. My car is in the shop or I'd run out and look it up. Regardless, the one for bikes is a moving violation $141.00 (3 pts).

If this is the same law that someone posted in here a few months ago it doesn't apply to cars unless it was revised. Who ever posted that thread pasted the whole law and it only mentioned motorcycles. I see no mention of cars any where other than what one person mentioned.
