Help me decide please.
FIRST! Yes I have tried the search function, and have read threw MANY post.
However I still find myself stuck between a 402 and a 408, and would like your help to make a decision.
My plans are to use my current mods in my sig for the time being, but im going to go to a F1-A W/ a FMIC. Im already having an issue with fuel, so I know that will have to be dealt with first. Im hoping to hit ~15psi on this build, and dont see a reason why I wont. Car will be used on the street, some road events, and some occasional drag visits.
To me there doesn't seem to be a huge price difference between the two. I believe the weight difference is somewhere between 70-90lbs, and Of course the iron block will be stronger but is it necessary for 700-850rwhp.
Sorry for making another "this or that" thread, but I have been dwelling on this for quite some time. I have read threw many post, but could not find anything that made me feel confident in my decision. Can anybody offer any other ideas that will help me make a decision?
Thanks
Troy

+1 I like the aluminum over the iron block too. Also check out LPA. I have been dicking around with hot wire kits and kenny bell boost a pumps and I'm still loosing fuel pressure at 12#'s of boost. I'm sending my pump off to lonnie this winter for a dual pump setup. Hopefully this will be the last time I drop the fuel tank for a while I think you'll need some bigger injectors to feed a 400+ ci moter.

I dont get it......a 402 is a 408........the only reason you build a 408 is if you have to bore the cyclinder, due to previous use.
The difference between iron and aluminum is about 94lbs, +- 1 lb. The difference between a 402 and a 408.......about 0.10 of a pound.
BTW, boost is only the measure of the ristriction of the intake. You should never shoot to run a certain boost. Other then the lowest to achieve the goal. 15 psi with one head is 150 hp lower then another head at 15 psi.
Controlling knock is ussually easier on smaller bores too, so the 402 is theoretically better, but that depends on your knock control methods way more.

We had good success with both iron and aluminum blocks. Perhaps my engine has held together through several hard rear bumper wheelies because it is an iron block, but a well built LS2 block will handle a lot of power. Check out this LS2/402 with an F-1A.
