You should weigh each piece you cut off. At least get a cheapo $10-15 scale and hold the item while on it. That way you can get a rough estimate of what it will weigh before you get it scaled.

That really dont interest me, im looking foward to the final weigh in!! Heres some finished up pics of the cowl. Used liquid metal to fill in any imperfections and covered the wiper hole......

sorry for the shitty contrast, new camra and still trying to figure it out.

LOL! No your car doesnt look like a beater by any means! My car only has 32,000 miles and its a WS6 formula, so its kinda hard to chop it, Makes me want to buy another mint car for a drag car only. Eventually Ill chop mine too. Just wish I had the *****!
What track do you normally go to?

Gave up on the turbo idea??? You were on the right track and you did find the set of headers KBracing96 mentioned that I knew about that WOULD fit without any modding at all....

Damn it anyways... was hoping to come in here and see a big ole 76mm hangin off that poor lt1..

Nice to see another serious Chicago car in the making. Looks like you are a grinder and a few very large cuts ahead of me.

I really like the filled cowl section that looks really nice. I can't even think of parting with my VFN SS (same as yours) so I'm going to have to go a diffrent route with the cowl area.

I hope I see you at the track this year.

Good luck, and looking good.

thanks a lot Jim, this car is like my second job. I leave work and go straight to work on it for a few hours then to bed to do it all over again Its not terrible looking with the hood on with a cut cowl, especially if you have a nice motor they will see

I have the perfect turbo for you in my items for sale in the link in my sig. I have a manifold you could chop up to make it work. I'll throw that in for free if you pay the shipping for it. You just need to reroute the last primary so it doesn't hit the steering shaft.

Here's a picture of the manifold:

How it fits:

Haha I hear you there. When I was demolishing the stock setup it seemed like I slept, ate, worked and then worked again.

It looks like you have pretty nice garage there. Mine is way more cramped and with the near zero degree weather I've slowed to a crawl. Hoping to get the motor in by the end of Feb but we'll see how fast I can get moving.

I'd rather not have the cowl completly off but we'll see what happens once I get all the cutting done and engine bay painted. Maybe I'll have to fab up something.

Looks good dude.

But why the big heavy 9 inch rear? At the lightweight its gonna be the 10 bolt would live with a 3.73, axles, spool and girdle.

At least a 12 bolt.

Sounds like a fun ride .. gonna be nice and light.
Gonna cut anything or build tubular sections?
Or are you limiting weight reduction to bolt-offs/cut-offs?

the housing is super light, it cant be more then a few lbs heaiver then the 10 bolt, does have a spool and the TA is light as hell too with it all being cromoly. I bet the whole combo is the same weight as a 12 bolt with a bmr/umi TA. There was no chance i was gonna stay with a 10 bolt eaither on this build and after i sold/bought/hussled the complete swap, out of pocket was $1500. Not a bad upgrade for that price. Reminds me of when my buddy told me its pointless to run 7/16 studs and to stay with the 3/8 ones and that there "good enough"

no tubular stuff for me. I dont have the right tools to do that and i dont want a hack job car in the end. So right now its bolt offs and cut offs

Have you seen the thread in the Drag tech section"whos on a 10 bolt"

Seen guys go 10.80 on spray in a 3700+ lb cars. Mine would have a 12 bolt if I would have known I was gonna swap to an auto earlier.

Its the center section and axles that are heavier in a 9 inch, plus they take more power to turn.

Im just sayin'
