i think what he means by "compressor surge" is when you get on it and let off the gas, it sounds like the turbo isn't "spinning freely" and letting out the excessive intake/exhaust pressure like it should.
You should check your BOV and wastegate to make sure they aren't stuck shut

My sts setup does the same exact thing as far as "surge" but have yet to figure out why. When your on the throttle at lower rpms then you let off you can hear the BOV open but you still hear the turbo trying to back spool.
It really sounds like the wastegate chattering open and closed rapidly. I've checked everything from vacc. to BOV and WG and no answer yet.
But it runs like a champ! Sorry to But hopefully this will spark an answer!

Oreo and RooR explained it. Kills the turbo life, but seems like a common problem? I like the sound of it lol but you will always run across some idiot that will ask you why you have compressor surge.
