Default Turbo sizing question...

I have a friend looking at a Turbonetics HP-76 for a 306" SBF.
It has a .96 A/R, and is said to be an F1 S trim.

Is this going to work in a 306 with a stick, 3.55s, and a mild head/cam set up?

Ideally he'd like to see 550+ at the wheels, with 10 or so psi, with the ability to run more if needed.

What do you guys think?

Maybe I should add some more info....
This turbo is being sold as brand new, in box for $800 cash, does that make it a better deal?

What I'm really looking to hear is either 'no, that turbo ain't going to work with a 306', or 'yes, that should work well'....

I am fully aware that we'll have 800 HP capability and all that...not going there with a stock block.
Looking for a nice street car that can rip it up at the track now and then.

Dr. Turbo, I appreciate your response, but is there something about the TC78 that makes it that much better? Is there something not so great about the HP76?
Does the fact that we are looking to get the HP76 for $800 change your suggestion in any way?
How much is a brand new TC78?

Thanks guys....

Mike that is a great price....****** it up. The TC78 will just offer a little more power and same basic spool.

Thanks Doc, the unit is in my buddies hands now.

We have a hotside kit coming and will start fabbing soon, I'll post up some results once we get it dialed in.

Thanks
Mike

Sounds close to mine but I have a 347. Its a HP kit and a 76mm she works just fine for me. Good enough for 9.90 @ 140 on pump gas. (about 14lbs of boost)
