Default restrictor plate vs surgeline

how will an inlet restrictor plate change the boost surge line on the left side of a compressor map ?

it will obviously move it to the left, but is there a way to determine how much ?

say for instance the supercharger needs to flow 300lb/min at 50.000rpm
or 300lb/min at 2.4 pressure ratio

could that be accieved with a correct restrictor ?

It won't move the surge line. It will change your P/R, as it is seeing vaccum in front of the compressor instead of Atmospheric pressure. So if your motor is seeing the same boost, you are seeing a higher Pressure Ratio than before, because your compressor is working harder.

well i don't completely agree with that.

if say: i am at a 2.2 pressure ratio with 350lb/min
that is in the compressor surge area of the graph.

now when i restrict it and you say all it does is drop pressure ratio, this would mean it now falls outside the surge area and into a more workable area , so it does sort of change the surge characteristics of the supercharger

or am i missing something ?
