Default Turbo bikes?

Can anybody give any recommendations on a turbo for a 1000 cc streetbike? Goals are 450-500 hp on E85, mostly just drag with some light cruising on the street. We plan to fabricate our own manifold, etc.

Can't say this is the right forum but just so happens I got ya covered. I have an 05 Raven I had a one off race turbo system made for. Good for 500hp. We got it tuned in on 9lbs on the stock 4K mile motor and blew a hole in a piston due to detonation(pump gas)-should have tuned the meth sytem in sooner.. Anyway, after I finish the car below, I'll be doing a full rebuild on the R1, tuning it in at 30psi hoping for 450-500rwhp then going to the TXMile with the bike and the car. Turbo is a Garrett Ceramic DBB GT30R hybrid, the tanks are meth tanks I designed, 3" stretch, 2.5" lower, and 240mm Zrated rear tire geared for 265mph in 6th.

450-500.....your looking at atleast the gt30, or more. I have a gt35r busa....No numbers yet as I just got my own dyno last week.

I run a micro tech piggy back, lowered compression etc etc etc etc...

The big problems are ussually riding them....and keeping a clutch in them.

I ran a ihi 5 that was rebuilt and made into a hybred by turbonetics. I ran 16 psi on my zx 11 and it would just touch 300 rwhp. At 9 psi it made 240 ish.

I ve seen 76's under busas now.......

We've got a turbo already that we were going to use for at least a mock-up, but I might try and do some research to figure out what it actually is. We were planning around 9.5-1 compression, with E85, tuned by our PCIII, and see where we can go with boost. Any recommendations on the clutch, besides better springs?

There are a TON of turbos that will work on that bike. All depends what you want to do with it. I'd say that a gt25-gt30 will be most suitable though for a "fun" power band.

Thanks bro, the plan is to sell the complete rotary pullout from the RX and turn around and have the R1 motor built so it won't be long..

few things...first wrong board..go to suzukihayabusa.org, second anything above 250-275 on the street just will spin even at 120+. i had a 00 busa and installed a baby hahn kit back in 01 (tuned by motorhead) back then you only had anderson, mcexpress, hahn and nlr was just coming on the scene. my busa with me 210 rider would weigh in at 755 on the scales at NED. using a lock up clutch i could run 9.0's @ 167 and turn around and ride the bike back home 120 miles away. on the highway at 10 psi of boost (pump gas) i could spin the tire at 115-120 mph in second gear...more boost= more spin. its nice to show people on a dyno your bike makes 400-500- and now even 600+ rwhp but you cant hook it on the street. if you want to use 400+ rwhp at the track your clutch will be a dedicated race clutch like a slipper....wot throttle dump clutch...they will need to be rebuilt every other pass...not a street set up...once you get boost in a bike EVERY car seems like a slug.

Not necessarily true. There are a lot of variables in all this but if you can control the power delivery you can get plenty more to hook up on the street.

i dont care if you have a nlr controller....that builds boost from 1-6th gear...my friend has a nlr race kit on his busa (makes 410rwhp 28 psi), he has everthing one can do to reduce spin and when the boost comes above 14-15 psi he will spin on the street..even if he is in 4th gear.

I wouldnt turbo a zx10....or an r1 personally.

Like I said, riding them and keeping a clutch in them is the hard part. Its true, after a turbo bike, all cars seem slow.

Multi stage gear dependingboost controllers....lock up clutches, etc etc..

It might spin.....then it might hook and then stand straight up at 160 mph.....thats scary as hell. Lots of guys have flipped over there turbo bikes way down track with just to much power. Most have said, that it happened so fast , that they never saw it coming even. There are pics on suzhaya .org. Its strange seeing a bike 6 ft off the ground at half track upside down......

I'll say that the short time I was boosted before the piston mishap ~220rwhp, I had MUCH more respect for the bike and how close I felt to the ragged edge of being in control....but that's what it's all about in the end isn't it?
