No reason not to run it. You should set your dynamic airflow high RPM disable down pretty low or your going to have problems when it sees boost. The VE is going to be sucking it toward lean (MAP maxxed) while the MAF pulls it more toward actual. Should be set at 4000 stock. When I MAF tune a car I set it to 400 or so.
On the stock tune, the PCM blends VE (uses MAP) and MAF data up until 4000. After the setpoint, it runs on pure MAF data. Setting it on 400 makes it run MAF data all the time ('cept for startup).
If you went 2-bar SD, you'd need a 2-bar sensor. Or, you could run a 2-bar on the 1-bar VE and sort-of 2x all the values (105kpa = 210kpa), but that's complicated.

I run my 98 that way. Its worked great for years, but if I remeber correctly I had false knock problems on the trasition into boost. From 93 kpa or so. I had to change burst knock, and desensitize via hp tuners. The 98's are just a bit finicky compared to the later stuff.
