Default Anyone try silver paint on head gaskets?

ancient trick by racers to paint both sides of head gaskets with copper or silver paint. I guess the high content of solids suspended in the paint helps seal the motor? I had to ask

Ancient is right. There are better gaskets and sealants out there now.

The thing that brought it up was a article in the latest Hot Rod Magazine. It was an economy small block build and the guy did it to the head gaskets.

My dad had said that they used to just paint the block on the front where the water pump bolts on and didn't use any gasket.

I have used this stuff before on SBC motors when using cheap fel-pro head gaskets and high compression, I have also used it on exhaust gaskets to keep them from leaking, stuff works real well. Would never think of doing it on MLS gaskets though.

*note, I did not buy it here, got it at the local autozone
