Default Turbo inlet screened or no screen?

Not enough room for a proper filter at high boost. Could easily make a 0.25 to 0.375 inch wire mesh screen....

A lot of turbo cars don't run anything at the track.

Anyone here running open inlets or screens at the track?

screens are a bad idea, restrict flow pretty good. Ive ran with out and with filters... same power

x2

I was going put screens on a friends car last summer. Bought a big sheet of the screen and just out of curiousity stuck it up to the shops swamp cooler. I would guess it cut fllow by at least 50% and the holes were pretty large.

No screen no filter here, only driven once or twice a year.

I need to rework some stuff and get filters on though, its not worth the minimal gains

Yeah, anybody have any input on the foam mushroom type filters. I only have room for one of these with the F2. Don't know what else to do...

Window mesh screen would be pretty restrictive. 3/8 woven wire stainless would have a lot of open area. Just big enough to stop a gravel or nut from the track.

My K&N filter is rated at 486cfm at 1.5" pressure drop.....putting more than 750 through it...at a much higher PD.

Should make for a good test.

Turbonetics makes a Bell Inlet without a filter just to increase the flow.

The hks mushroom style filters work very nicely.
They dont restrict much flow and are very durable.
I used to have one on my boosted 240.

For tight spots we sell the HKS mushroom filter. Screens though are not a good idea.

Fwiw when we built a bunch of the single turbo cars with the TTi hot parts 1 filter the size of yours was used.

Curious about restriction I dyno'd one of the cars (w/76gts turbo) with and without the air filter. Made identical power on both runs (a bit over 900rwhp).

I didn't measure actual pressure drop but I would guess it was minimal as it didn't translate into a power loss.

We have seen as much as 125whp loss through a screen in only the 800whp range!!! With a good size filter at that level 0 loss.

Holy ****, with that plus the fact that very small debris can still get through, why the hell do some people still run them???

Yeah it's all about area. Cut apart even a small conical filter and flatten the screen section out. Huge area compared to any type of screen you could attach to the inlet.
